Well that's it from the Sydney Derby today. Join us back tomorrow for more exciting action from BBL 2023!

Until then, this is Anirudh Modi, signing off along with my co-commentator Soumarya, and our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav! See you on the next one.
16:40 IST, 22:10 Local Time | Bad news folks, the umpires have decided to call the match off. A thrilling encounter falls prey to the rain gods and the respective teams will share a point each. Sydney Sixers will be disappointed with the developments here, as they were on course to win the Derby!

Let's take you through what transpired in this match. Sydney Thunder won the toss and elected to bat first. It was a nightmarish start as the Thunder lost both Cameron Bancroft and the debutant Tom Kohler-Cadmore in the powerplay. However, Alex Hales began the counter-attack to end the powerplay at 34/2 after the first 4 overs.

Ben Dwarshuis entered the fray post powerplay to pick up Oliver Davies' wicket on his 100th appearance and Jack Edwards ended the Hale-Storm at 26 runs from 19 balls to leave the Thunder reeling at 53/4 after 7.2 overs. Alex Ross and Daniel Sams entered a period of consolidation and stitched together a 70 run-stand to avoid a collapse.

Sydney Sixers pulled things back in the slog overs by picking up 3 wickets but the lower middle order ensured that the Thunder crossed the 150 run-mark to register 151/7 after their 20 overs. Jack Edwards was the pick of the bowlers with the figures of 3/24 from his 4 overs while Bird chipped in with a couple of wickets to his name.

The chase was a short-lived one, Chris Green dismissed the danger man Josh Philippe in the second over but Vince and Patterson had begun their counter-attack to push their team's total to 34/1 at the end of the powerplay.

Unfortunately, that's when the rain gods decided to interfere. A bit of controversy with Chris Green delaying the start of the 5th over to ask the umpires to get the covers on. If that over would have been bowled, we would have had a result and Sixers would have won the derby via DLS.

But that was not the case, as the umpires called the covers on and the match had to be abandoned without a result.
16:38 IST, 22:08 Local time- The game has been called off. It's a real shame since we were just one over away from having a result and it's really disappointing for the big crowd that had gathered here to watch the Sydney Smash. Both Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder get a point each.
16:27 IST, 21:55 Local time- The cut off time for restart here is 22:23 Local time and the rain needs to recede quickly if we're to have any further action in the game.
The latest update is that we have lost four overs already and might end up loosing a few more with the rain showing no signs of clearing at the moment.
16:05 IST, 21:35 Local time- The rain is quite heavy at the moment and the raincoats and umbrellas have made an appearance in the stands. Seems like it will be a while before we get back and it should be a shortened game.
Oh no! The rain seems to have gotten a bit heavier and  the players are walking off the field. Hopefully it will clear away soon.
15:50 IST, 21:20 Local time- The powerplay has come to an end here and it has been really good one for the Sixers despite losing a wicket. Patterson is looking aggressive and he helped them finish it off on a high with 11 runs.
