That's it from the first ODI between West Indies and India as the visitors take the game by 5 wickets. Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash and scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "I never thought that the pitch would play like that. It was the team's need that we wanted to bowl first and have a score in front of us. I never thought the pitch will deteriorate so much. It had everything for seamers and spinners. Run scoring was quite difficult. To restrict them to that score was superb effort from our bowling unit.

It did challenge us for a bit. We wanted to give chance to the guys. We never thought we will lose five wickets but again it was good to give some game time to lot of these ODI guys who have just come in. We will keep trying those things as and when we feel like we have to do it. Firstly it was important for us to get into a good position. Restricting them to 115 was a great effort and I thought we had that commanding position that we need and which is why we thought we can try to give them a go. I don't know when these guys will get an opportunity like that so whenever we get the time, we will try and accommodate these guys.

I made my debut for India at number 7 when Virat did not bat. Mukesh has been brilliant. Even in the Test series we saw he can swing the new ball. Has got a bit of pace and quite consistent as well. We wanted to see what he has to offer. I haven't seen much of him in domestic cricket. It was good to see him playing well with the white ball as well. Taking away from this game was the entire effort from the bowlers. How we bowled, how we adapted to that condition. No matter what the conditions are you have to bowl in the right areas and let the ball do the talking. Our bowlers did that and Ishan was good with the bat."
Shai Hope (West Indies Captain): "(On speaking about loss)Too many words come to mind but let's just say we didn't play well. We need to find ways to score on difficult pitches like that. I am not making excuses but anyone watching cricket can see what is happening here. He (Jayden Seales) is a quality player, somebody we can invest in and I hope he grows from strength to strength. Yeah, any 9.30 start in the Caribbean will be difficult, the Indian bowlers did well on this surface, but we didn't bat well."
Kuldeep Yadav (Player of the Match): "Perfect start from the fast bowlers. Mukesh making his debut and then Shardul, Hardik started very well and with the pace on Umran. It was a perfect day for the bowlers. Me and Jadeja were brilliant. We hit the good areas which was important on this surface.

I am just following the routine, focusing on the rhythm. Its been brilliant in the last one and a half years. Focusing on length is more important than thinking about the wicket. Its coming out nicely.

People say that its a seamer's paradise. We are happy that we got seven wickets from out side and probably 3-4 wickets from other side. It was spinning and bouncing a bit so I really enjoyed it.

Its always good to have a competition. Me and Chahal, especially in ODI, we don't think about the competition. Just working together and that's important in longer format. Of course when you have a senior like Chahal giving you confidence at the same time. Gives you lot of advice as well. We are playing together for five or six years and doing together well. There is no competition, we are enjoying each other's company."
Kuldeep Yadav is the player of the match.
11:13 PM IST, 1:43 PM Local time: India go 1-0 up in the ODI series doing short work of the West Indies team defeating them by 5 wickets and 163 balls remaining in the game. It is also the second biggest ODI win for India against Windies in terms of ball remaining.

Skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first in the series opener. Debutant Mukesh Kumar, Shardul Thakur and Hardik Pandya picked up a wicket apiece in the first powerplay and afterwards it was the Jadeja-Kuldeep show as the duo shared 7 wickets between them. Kuldeep finished with 4/6 in 3 overs, Jadeja picked up 3 for 37 in six overs.

Ishan Kishan was promoted to open the innings and scored an attacking 52 in 46 balls making full use of the multiple dropped chances. Shubman Gill failed again getting out for just 7. Suryakumar Yadav batted at 7 and scored an aggressive 19 in 25 balls before getting out to left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie.

Hardik Pandya walked in at number 4 and was unlucky to be dismissed at the non striker's end when Yannic Cariah dropped Kishan's catch and deflected the ball back on the stumps. Jadeja stepped in at number 5 and remained unbeaten on 16 in 21 balls.

Shardul Thakur replaced Ishan Kishan on the field as he miscued one slog at deep midwicket. Thakur edged one in the slip cordon and departed for just 1. Rohit Sharma eventually stepped out at number 7 and scored the winning boundary in the 23rd over.

There was nothing much for the fast bowlers as only Seales (1/21) got a breakthrough. Gudakesh Motie continued his good run of form and finished with 2/26. Yannic Cariah finished with 1/35 in 5 overs.

Hang around as we come back with the post match presentation.
