The defending champions Perth Scorchers start their campaign with a comfortable 38-run win over the Sydney Sixers at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The last year's runner-up fell woefully short and has now lost their first two games. Both while chasing a gettable score.
Chasing a target of 156 to notch up their first win in two games, the Sydney Sixers lost wickets at regular intervals in the powerplay as they were reduced to 31/5 inside 8 overs. It was the duo of Jordan Silk and Hayden Kerr who rescued things for the Sixers with a 75-run stand for the sixth wicket. Silk scored 41 off 32 balls while Kerr scored 42 off 35 balls. But once they fell, the innings fell away post the 15th over as the Sixers were bowled out for 117 in 20 overs with the help of 4 extras given by the fielding side.

Only Faf du Plessis (14), and Josh Inglis (13) got to double figures from the top of the order. But it was Aaron Hardie’s brilliant 55 off 32 balls that rescued the Scorchers from a precarious position. He was ably supported by Ashton Agar who scored 24 off 24 balls. Matthew Kelly remained unbeaten on 13* as the Scorchers ended with a competitive score of 155/9 with the help of 5 extras given by the fielding side.
Jackson Bird was the pick of the bowlers for the Sydney
Sixers as he finished with 3/26 in 4 overs. He was ably supported by the
spinner Naveed who picked up a couple of wickets in his 2/22 in 4 overs. A wicket
apiece for Naveen-ul-Haq, Sean Abbott, Hayden Kerr, and Daniel Christian.
Abbott went the distance today. The others were good with the ball.
So, a win for the Perth Scorchers by 38 runs to notch up their first win in their opening game. The Sydney Sixers have lost two matches in a row and have some work to do although it's the early stages of the BBL season.
