What a game we just witnessed. KKR hold their nerves to win the game by the barest of margins. That brings an end to our coverage for this game. You can switch your tabs as the Punjab Kings are taking on the Gujarat Titans.

For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentators Deepak Prakash, Sidharth Gulati and AkshayaKrishna Polya and scorer Manish Bishnoi. Bye Bye.
Andre Russell (Player of the Match): "Yeah, for sure. I always back my bowling as I said earlier. But getting the ball in crucial time and I knew I had to contribute for the team. Happy with the two points.

When I was batting earlier, change-ups were difficult to hit. It was at the back of my mind. The cutters were gripping and I just had to get those two batters out. Sunil Narine's over was also important. Getting those two wickets was important and it resulted in the slide for RCB.

When I look at the equation, Harshit had one and Starcy had one. I had two. So I knew I had to bowl the 19th. I had to give Starcy more runs to defend. I had to keep mixing up my pace against DK who was not going to keep the strike. A good job done by the team."
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: Andre Russell
Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders Captain): " Yeah, it takes a lot of your body and it drains you out completely because you go through so many emotions throughout the game and it's just tough to stay calm. But, you know, I'm elated that we got this victory and two points in the bank, nothing more than that.

Yeah, it's extremely tough, and the pressure is on. So, I believe that every individual should take that responsibility and put their hands up, saying, 'Okay, I'm going to deliver at this point in time.' And a few of them did just that. For example, Russell came on. He took two crucial wickets, completely changing the momentum in our favor. This kind of attitude and character are essential in the team.

You know, it's a funny game at the end of the day. When you require 18 runs off six balls, the pressure is squarely on the bowler, while the batsman's mindset is simply to attack every delivery. A single six can swiftly shift the momentum in favor of the batting side, putting tremendous pressure on the bowler. That's why it's crucial, as I mentioned earlier, to maintain our composure, stay focused on the present moment, and execute our plans as bowlers. Making the batsman hit where we want them to is key. Looking ahead, there will undoubtedly be more challenges like this in the games to come. So we need to stick to our routines and processes and see that we get the meetings right and execute according to what we plan.

Yes, it was a pivotal Knock, I would say, because I wanted to stay till the end and see to it that I, you know, steady the shift for the team. And we were losing back-to-back wickets in between. So I basically decided to stay till the end and get few fours here and there and change the momentum towards us. And that was happening really well."
Most Fours of the Match: Shreyas Iyer (7 fours)
Super Sixes of the Match: Wii Jacks (5 sixes. Rajat Patidar also hit five maximums but Jacks wins the award because he scored more runs than Patidar).
Fantasy Player of the Match: Andre Russell (116 points)
Electric Striker of the Match: Philip Salt (48 runs off 14 balls at a SR of 342.86)

Harshit Rana (KKR): “The plan was to bowl slower balls. The wicket was good for batting and we spoke about taking the pace off the ball and I tried to execute the plans.

I try to keep myself cool. I don’t think about the results. I try to execute my plans. The discussion was about taking the pace off the ball. Sunil bowled well. Varun also bowled well and we decided to bowl slower deliveries.

It was an intense match and I can't describe the emotions in the last over."
Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bengaluru Captain): "Yeah, look it was crazy. The rules are the rules. Virat and myself thought that it was above Virat’s waist but he was outside the popping crease. It is always that one team thinks it was right and the other thinks it was not. But it was an unbelievable partnership to get close to that total. That over from Narine where he got two wickets was the turning point for me.

That’s the nature of the game. We feel that’s how the game is changing. You have an extra batter. So there is a long batting line-up. But when you are chasing 250, 260 you have to believe. But when you have that over of Narine, you feel you have got the window. I feel that was the turning point.

That’s why I talk about those moments. If you are decision making is clear while out there in the middle, it helps. But I’m really proud of the guys. Everyone is striving hard. We felt it was defendable. At the halfway stage, we thought it was a par score. You have to score big in the powerplay. It’s okay with losing two or three wickets but you have to play aggressively and make use of the fielding restrictions.

We are desperate. Nice to see the boys putting their bodies on the line. 10 out of 10 from them. We have a massive fan base. RCB chants are the loudest. So, it’s hurting us because we are not getting the results.”
7:40 PM IST, Local Time: Phew! What a game of cricket we have witnessed here at the 'City of Joy'. Karn Sharma almost snatched the victory from KKR's grasp, but Mitchell Starc held his nerve and helped KKR win by the narrowest of margins. The match swung like a pendulum but eventually, it rested in the favor of KKR, who won by a mere one run.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first, KKR posted a mammoth 222/6 in 20 overs. RCB managed to execute their plans against Sunil Narine, dismissing the southpaw for just 10 runs off 15 balls, but Phil Salt continued his merry ways in this tournament. He blazed his way to a rapid 48 runs off just 14 balls, providing a blazing start for the hosts.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Venkatesh Iyer departed for 3 and 16 runs, respectively, but Shreyas Iyer played a well-composed knock, contributing 50 runs off 36 balls. Rinku Singh played a cameo, adding 24 runs to the total, while Russell and Ramandeep Singh remained unbeaten on 27 and 24 runs, respectively, helping KKR post a hefty 222/6 in 20 overs.

Yash Dayal and Green bagged a couple of wickets for RCB, while Siraj and Lockie Ferguson celebrated a solitary wicket for the visitors.

In pursuit of a hefty 222 runs, Virat Kohli came out all guns blazing, scoring at a rapid pace from the word go but failed to settle for long, departing for 18 runs off just 7 balls. Faf du Plessis failed to find his rhythm today, departing for a mere 7 runs.

Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar paired up in the middle, and the duo wreaked havoc with the ball, taking KKR bowlers to the cleaners and putting RCB's batting back on track. The duo notched up their respective half-centuries and added 100+ runs for the third wicket.RCB were in total control of the match, but Russell had other plans for the team donning the green jersey. The right-arm quick came into the attack and removed both set batters in the span of three balls in his opening over, providing a much-needed breakthrough for the hosts.

Following the wickets of both set batters, RCB started losing wickets at regular intervals, and the onus was on DK, who failed to bat till the end, departing for 25 runs off 18 balls, leaving his side in deep waters.

RCB needed 21 runs off the final over with Karn Sharma on strike, and the southpaw smashed Starc for three sixes in four balls, bringing the equation to 3 runs off 2 balls. However, Starc held firm and removed Karn Sharma in the penultimate ball with a stunning low catch in his follow-through. Lockie Ferguson came out as the last batter for RCB to face the final ball, but the right-hander failed to seal the deal for his side, only managing to score one run off the final ball and getting run-out in search of the second run. KKR won by a barest margin in this last-ball thriller.

Andre Russell shone with the ball, bagging three wickets. Harshit Rana and Sunil Narine chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Mitchell Starc and Varun Chakaravarthy celebrated a solitary wicket.

Stay tuned for the presentation...
