And that wraps up our coverage of the 5th game of IPL 2024! The Gujarat Titans have begun their campaign with a fantastic victory, edging out the Mumbai Indians by just 6 runs. What a way to kick off the tournament for the Titans! 🎉

As we look forward to more cricketing action in the upcoming matches, I, Hitesh Peddurwar, alongside my esteemed co-commentators Akshay Bhide, AkshayaKrishna Polya, and our scorers/analysts Zeeshan Naiyer and Chandan Kumar Singh, bid you farewell. Thank you for joining us, and until next time, keep enjoying the excitement of the game! 🏏
The last time Mumbai Indians won their opening IPL game was back in 2012!
B Sai Sudharsan (Player of the Match): "I feel in the first innings also it was slightly difficult to bat and in the second innings due to the dew they were able to play some shots. Yeah, I feel that we have pulled off a great game today.

I am not taking it as pressure it's just an extra opportunity for me to go out there and express myself. Definitely, after a few balls, I felt it was not the wicket where we could go over in every over.

Yeah, fielding was really great, too many great contributions I am surprised to receive this award. As a batter, I found really difficult when their bowlers took the pace off the ball and our bowlers did a good job."
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: B SAI SUDHARSAN
Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans Captain): "Yeah, definitely the boys held their nerves with the dew coming in. Yeah there was a lot of dew, I think even with the dew the way our spinners bowled Rashid and Sai they made sure that we are in the game.

Yeah, Mohit Sharma has been a revolution for us from the time he has come, even in the last year he performed really well. We just were looking to keep building the pressure on them.

The crowd has always come here to support us, whether it was a day game or a night game. Yeah, 170, would have been a good score but we were 10 runs short but it happens in this game. They were also scoring really good at one point, but it wasn't easy hitting the all here."

11:34 PM IST, Local Time: Time for the post-match presentation.
Spencer Johnson (Gujarat Titans): “Absolutely incredible. Full house here and to get a win has been really special.

I think stay calm. I had Ash there at long off chatting with me. To get the belief from Ash and from everyone, it was pretty cool. For me, what works well is bowling the hard length. Keeping calm and not panicking. Just sticking to what I do well.

(On the crowd tonight) This is easily the biggest. I always wanted to play cricket here in India and here I am. Hopefully, we will keep winning.

(On playing under Shubman Gill) Shubman was unbelievable. He sat beside me on the bus and he kept me calm. He has been an incredible young captain.”
Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians Captain): “Obviously, we backed ourselves to chase those 42 runs. But it was one of those days where if we saw the score is less in the last five overs, we lost the momentum.

It feels good to be back because this is one stadium where you can enjoy the atmosphere. The crowd was full and they got a good game.

(On Tilak not taking singles) I think Tilak felt it was the right decision to not give strike to David and I completely back him.”
11:20 PM IST and Local Time: Gujarat Titans win a sea-saw game of cricket by 6 runs and remain unbeaten against Mumbai Indians at Ahmedabad! This is nothing but a slap to Hardik Pandya as the crowd booed him totally.

In the most-anticipated battle at Ahmedabad, the new Mumbai Indians skipper Hardik Pandya was booed at the toss despite him winning it and opting to bowl first. Gujarat Titans’ openers Wriddiman Saha and Shubman Gill added a breezy 31 runs, including a first-ball boundary off Pandya. Jasprit Bumrah was introduced in the fourth over, and the Indian pacer nailed the yorker to knock over the wicket-keeper batter for a 15-ball 19.

A few more decent partnerships kept ticking the scoreboard, but none of them actually accelerated and scored big. While Gill scored 31 off 22, B Sai Sudharsan amassed 45 off 39 balls, and Azmatullah Omarzai hit a cameo of 11-ball 17. David Miller failed to go big, with Bumrah making life hard for the batters with a spell of 4-0-14-3.

Rahul Tewatia scored a 15-ball 22 but was out to Coetzee (4-0-27-2) in the last over before GT finished on 168/6 in 20 overs.

Omarzai (3-0-27-2) gave shock waves to MI early on with the new ball by dismissing Ishan Kishan for a duck before getting rid of young Naman Dhir after the Punjab batter scored a brisk knock of 20 from 10 balls.

Rohit Sharma (43 off 29) and impact player Dewald Brevis (46 off 38) added 77 runs for the third wicket and things looking easy for the five-time champions in the middle overs.

Sai Kishore (4-0-24-1) bowled brilliantly despite the dew and trapped the Indian skipper.

The game turned on its head with each passing ball as GT bowled superbly well using the conditions on offer. The scoring rate suddenly moved up, and the Mumbai-based franchise, despite having the likes of Tilak Varma, Tim David and Pandya, faltered big time.

Mohit Sharma bowled an excellent spell of 4-0-32-2, while Spencer Johnson, despite going for 17 runs off his opening over, came back and bowled a superb 19th over, picking two important scalps.

With 19 required off the final over, GT went with Umesh Yadav. Pandya started off with a couple of boundaries, bringing the equation down to 9 off 4.

Once the Mumbai Indians' skipper failed to clear long-on in the third ball, the 2022 IPL champions knew that they had the game covered before the tailenders avoided the all-out, as MI ended up on 162/9.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!
