Harmanpreet Kaur (Mumbai Indians Women Skipper and Player of the Match): "Happy with the way we played. I would credit Himanshu bhaiya (my coach) for my performance. I took a break from domestic cricket. That has helped. It was about taking the game deep. We were confident of getting the job done. Spinner bowling the final over worked in our favour. We played with the turn, and got the desired result. We have depth in our batting. We wanted to chase because of the conditions. Batting first or second does not matter, what matters is the conditions."

Amelia Kerr: "Pretty awesome feeling to be on the right side of the contest. Overall, it was a good wicket throughout the 40 overs. We gave ourselves a chance. It's all about contributing to the team. Our spinners were key last year. If the wickets get slow this year, too, our slow bowlers would once again be key. We want to be prepared before each and every game."

Meg Lanning (Delhi Capitals Women Skipper): "I think we posted a reasonable total. Mumbai (Indians) began well with the ball, which was probably the difference in the end. The pitch was good for the batters. Credit to Mumbai (Indians) for getting over the line. We certainly felt like we could get the job done. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. I think we executed our plans for most part of the contest. (On the final over) Capsey was good. Having the batters hit the longer side of the ground was the plan. Mumbai (Indians) fought till the end. They were clinical under pressure."

Mumbai Indians Women win by 4 wickets in the last-ball thriller to kickstart their campaign on a high note.

Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Delhi Capitals Women posted a hefty total of 171/5 in 20 overs. Their innings were anchored by Alice Capsey, who played a scintillating knock of 75 runs off 53 balls, laying a solid foundation for the Capitals. Additionally, Capsey was involved in a couple of fifty-run partnerships with Jemimah Rodrigues and Meg Lanning, who contributed 42 and 31 runs, respectively, helping the Capitals cross the 170-run mark.

Nat Sciver-Brunt and Amelia Kerr bagged a couple of wickets for Mumbai Indians Women, while Shabnim Ismail celebrated a solitary wicket.

In pursuit of 171 runs, Mumbai Indians Women lost Hayley Matthews for a silver duck in the first over of the innings. However, Yastika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt scored rapidly in the powerplay, adding 50 runs for the second wicket. Their partnership looked promising, but Arundhati Reddy clean-bowled Nat for 19 runs, breaking the budding partnership.

In the latter half of the innings, Amelia Kerr and Harmanpreet took responsibility for scoring runs and both batters seemed well-settled at the crease. However, at a crucial juncture, Shikha Pandey clean-bowled Kerr for 24 runs, putting the defending champions on the back foot.

Harmanpreet brought up her fifty with a maximum, keeping hopes alive. But with 5 needed off 2 balls, the skipper fell prey to Alice Capsey after scoring 55 runs, leaving her side in deep waters.

With 5 runs needed off 1 ball, the fans were on the edge of their seats. What they witnessed was nothing short of a miracle as Sajeevan Sajana, the girl from Mananthavady who used to play with coconut madal in her childhood, smashed a six off the last ball and sealed the game for the defending champions, Mumbai Indians Women.
