12:20am Local Time, 12:50am IST: Sourya: In a battle of big guns, Multan Sultans have demolished Quetta Gladiators by 79 runs.
Defending a score of 185, the Sultans turned on the style with the ball. David Willey, with his pace and swing, and Osama Mir with his impeccable leg-spin, were the pick of the bowlers, both picking up identical figures of 3/22. Abbas Afridi also got two wickets, as the Gladiators were never in the chase at any point of time.
Wickets kept on falling at regular intervals, with the bowlers sticking to the basics with elan and choking the scoring, with captain Mohammed Rizwan handling the bowlers expertly.
Omair Yousuf put up a semblance of fight with 37 off 25, but it was never going to be enough as the Gladiators got all out for 106, the lowest total so far in this season's PSL.
Earlier, after being put into bat first, the Multan Sultans reached an above-par score of 185/4 after making a relatively slow start. The loss of Yasir Shah early, meant skipper Mohammed Rizwan and Usman Khan (21 off 23), had to rebuild the innings.
But after Abrar Ahmed had clean bowled the latter, Johnson Charles joined Rizwan in the middle, and the two put up a fiery partnership. Rizwan used his reach and hand-eye coordination to great effect, making 69 (47). And after he got out, Charles began a rampage, in the end making 53 off 29, hitting some towering sixes.
Iftikhar Ahmed made some quick runs at the end. Mohammad Amir got two wickets but was expensive, conceding 40 off his four overs.
A great win that ensures the Sultans will be part of the first Qualifier. The Gladiators will have to play the Eliminator when the Playoffs begin.
