We should have restricted them to less runs after they got to 97 for 7 but this happens. We instructed the three top order batters to take their time and they contributed well. Later I and Haseebullah switched gears to improve the gears. Sharjeel is in good form and he has contributed well in the Pakistan Cup too. 6:31 PM IST, 6:01 Local Time | Deepak: A comprehensive victory for Multan Region as they thumped AJK Region by 7 wickets with 15 balls to spare. Multan skipper mentioned during the toss that they lost momentum in the last game in the super over and lost the game. He added that they would learn from their mistakes and try to improve in the current match. And they did exactly that, playing like true professionals and winning the game with ease.
Earlier, after being invited to bat first, AJK Region got a solid start from Usman Maroof, who scored at a brisk pace from the word go and notched up his half-century. However, Maroof failed to convert it into a big score and departed straightaway after completing his half-century. AJK lost a flurry of wickets in quick succession following the wicket of Maroof and were reeling at 97/7 in the 14th over.
Aqib Liaqat and Raja Muhammad Shahzad steadied the sinking ship at the cue end of the innings and helped their side post a respectable 131/10 in 19.2 overs. Tahir Hussain bagged a couple of wickets for Multan. Ali Majid and Siraj Uddin chipped in with a couple of wickets, while Faisal Akram and Aamer Yamin contributed one wicket to AJK’s downfall.
In pursuit of a paltry 131 runs, Multan lost Zeeshan Ashraf for a mere 2 runs in the first over of the innings. Sharjeel Khan and Haseebullah started building the partnership in the middle, and the duo scored at a decent pace to keep the scoreboard ticking. Sharjeel notched up his half-century but failed to convert it into a big score and departed for 53 runs.
Sohaib Maqsood failed to find his footing in the middle and departed for run-a-ball 12 runs. However, Haseebullah remained unbeaten on 46 runs off 39 balls and helped his side cross the winning line with 15 balls to spare.
AJK Region bowlers failed to defend a paltry total and have lost the second game on the trot now. Naveed Malik, Basit Ali Snr, and Raja Muhammad Shahzad celebrated a solitary wicket for AJK.
