So that marks the end of our coverage from the grand finale of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-24 between Punjab and Baroda where Punjab won the ultimate thriller by 20 runs to win the trophy for the first time in the history.

For now, this is Saptak Sanyal signing off alongside my co-commentator Ayan Chatterjee and our scorer/analyst Yogesh Kumar. Stay safe and just switch the tab to follow our exclusive coverage of the World Cup match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Mandeep Singh collects the trophy and now the celebrations begin in the ground. This will go long into the night and they deserve it.
Mandeep Singh is walking in the middle amidst the appreciation from his team to collect the trophy and what a moment this is for the Punjab cricket!
Mandeep Singh (Punjab Captain): "Thank you so much. It is like a dream come true to play for India and win a trophy for Punjab. Special congratulations to the boys and Shere Punjab that helped. Great credit to our coach and he has really motivated us better. Probably yes. The sighting was difficult but it happens. Happy to win the match and the trophy. We should not have dropped the catches, but we did. Glad we won the match and thanks to everyone at PCA and the groundstaff for their efforts that they have put in."
Abhishek Sharma(Player of the tournament)- "I am happy with the team performance. We have dreamt this since the first day and we made it! We are playing as a team for last three-four years and we did our best to win the trophy. Finally it's happening. We have won the tournament and I am happy for that."
Anmolpreet Singh (Player of the Match) : "I just backed myself and starting it was dry but it became better. We lost early wickets and we played according to the situation. Then we accelerated and got the runs. Happy with my performance very much."
Krunal Pandya (Baroda Captain): "I mean, I am proud of the boys. They fought well. We never gave up and stayed till the end. Just that the result did not go our way. Yes, we gave away a lot of runs in the death overs. If we would have restricted them to 200 it would have been easier, but that's the way it goes. This is a young team and they will learn from this experience and the goal is to win trophies."
8:20 PM IST and Local Time: Time for the presentations.
20:10 IST and Local Time | Bring some Kulcha. Bring some butter chicken! It's time for party for the Punjab boys here at Mohali. They are absolutely pumped up. Their hard work has paid off and they secured the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title victory for the first time in the history! Anmolpreet Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Nehal Wadhera, Harpreet Brar, Abhishek Sharma and everyone- take a bow!!!!

After putting in to bat first, Punjab lost in-form Abhishek Sharma for a golden duck. Anmolpreet Singh stepped up right there and hit a few boundaries to start the innings. Prabhsimran Singh also departed scoring just 9. Skipper Mandeep Singh took the charge and registered a 80 run partnership with Anmolpreet Singh before getting out on 32. But then, it was time for Nehal Wadhera to start the carnage alongside Anmolpreet. Together, they smashed the Baroda bowlers here and there to score runs at a very high rate. Anmolpreet Singh became the first batter to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Final and scored 113 of 61 balls with 10 fours and 6 massive ones. Nehal Wadhera scored 61 of 27 with 6 fours and 4 sixes. Punjab finished on 223 for 4 after the 20th over.

For Baroda, Soyeb Sopariya, Krunal Pandya and Atit Sheth took one wicket each.

Chasing 224 run target, Baroda were off to a shaky start as Jyotsnil Singh departed early. Abhimanyu Singh was sent at number 3 to use the powerplay but he was not finding the gaps too. That's when Ninad Rathva stepped up and hit a few big hits to score 47 of 21. Later Abhimanyu Singh changed his gears to take on the bowlers and he did that successfully. With his skipper Krunal Pandya, he registered a 88 run partnership before getting out on 61. Later Arshdeep Singh's penultimate over was crucial for the Punjab's win. He removed the well set skipper Krunal Pandya on 45 in the first ball, Shivalik Sharma on the second ball and Bhanu Pania on the fourth ball. Vishnu Solanki did some carnage but he also fell to Harpreet Brar in the final over and Baroda got restricted on 203 for 7, 20 short of the target.

Arshdeep Singh was the star of the show with four wickets. Siddarth Kaul, Harpreet Brar and Mayank Markande took one wicket each.
