So, that's a wrap up on the proceedings of the first game of the WBBL 2023. Don't go too far away as we will have the Brisbane Heat up against the Melbourne Stars shortly from the same venue. Switch tabs to catch all the action from that game. For now, this is Ayan Chatterjee signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Deepak Prakash alongside scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. Stay safe, happy, and cool. Goodbye and CHEERS!
Player of the Match: Ellyse Villani.
2:05 PM IST, 6:35 PM Local Time: So, the Hobart Hurricanes Women are on the board in WBBL 2023 as they upstage the Adelaide Strikers Women by 7 wickets with an over to spare in this rain reduced game. It was a close game, but Hobart Hurricanes played just a little bit better in the end.

Chasing 75 for the win in 8 overs in this rain reduced game, Hurricanes got off to a fast start with Lizelle Lee blazing away to 21 off 9 balls before she fell. Ellyse Villani the skipper played well and looked good as she guided the chase and remained unbeaten on 39* off 24 balls. They lost their way towards the end, but Ruth Johnston with two boundaries in two deliveries finished things off as she scored 8* off 2 balls to get the job done in 7 overs. 5 extras given by the fielding side.

From Adelaide Strikers; point of view, Megan Schutt picked up a wicket and so did Adams and Gibson in the end. But it was too low a score to defend in the end.

Earlier in the game, Adelaide Strikers Women were put into bat first by Hobart Hurricanes Women. It was all about the openers as Katie Mack and Laura Wolvaardt batted the bulk of the innings. Mack scored 32 off 25 balls while Laura Wolvaardt scored an unbeaten 35* off 20 balls. Tahlia McGrath was 1* in the end. But they left runs out there as Adelaide Strikers Women ended with 74/1 after 8 overs. 6 extras given by the fielding side.

The one wicket that fell was through a run out as the bowlers remained wicketless. But they did well to keep the score down to under 80 in the 8 overs and in the end won the game in the end.

So, Hobart Hurricanes win this game by 7 wickets and open their account against the defending champions.

W A loud appeal and up goes the finger! Graham goes upstairs straightaway! Full-length outside off. Graham swings at it but gets the faint edge of the bat on it. The keeper makes no mistake. The ultra-edge shows a clear spike when the ball is next to the bat so the decision remains the same.
6.3 D Gibson to H Graham
2 Full-length delivery around off-stump line. Graham makes room and drives it through the covers for a couple of runs.
6.2 D Gibson to H Graham
0 Full and outside off. Graham swings hard at it but misses.
6.1 D Gibson to E Villani
1 Full-length outside off. Villani chops it to point for a single.
6.1 D Gibson to E Villani
WD WIDE AGAIN! Ah, you can not afford to give extras at this moment. Full and way outside outside off. Wide signaled again.
6.1 D Gibson to E Villani
