WBBL 09's second day has come to an end here and we have seen two entertaining encounters take place! Join us back tomorrow as the season gathers pace to crown the latest champion of WBBL!

Until then, this is Anirudh, signing off along with my co-commentator Deepak, and our scorer/analyst Yogesh! See you on the next one!
Sophie Devine (Player of the Match): "Tricky away game to start against the Hurricanes. Obviously, they had a few players missing with Elyse Villani out and Nick Carey too, so just super pleased with the group. Yeah, well, the first thing is, I've got to remember that I don't walk out at the start of the game.

Obviously, I've done it a little bit with the Kiwi side and just for me, it's just about that tempo and obviously trying to cash in towards the back end. And with the power surge in this competition, I think that's something that we can certainly exploit a lot more in this year's competition. So at the end of the day, we've got great flexibility in our lineup and if that means I drop down to four, then so be it."

4:36 PM IST, 10:06 PM Local Time | A dominant victory for Perth Scorchers Women to kick off their WBBL09 campaign! They defeat a hapless Hobart Hurricanes Women by a huge margin of 98 runs!

Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and elected to bowl first,
but the decision proved to be futile. After the initial flurry of wickets which saw them restrict Perth to just 52/3 after the first 7.4 overs, the skipper Sophie Devine took matters into her own hands.

A quiet start was followed by a blistering knock of 87 runs from 44 balls and with the help of Amy Edgar in the end, the duo was able to power their team to a total of 186/4 after the first 20 overs. Maisy Gibson was the pick of the bowlers for her figures of 1/29 from her 4 overs.

Come the chase, Hobart knew they would have to come out all guns blazing to chase down this target but a nightmare awaited them. Chloe Ainsworth removed 2 of Hobart's batters in the first over itself and by the end of the powerplay they were reeling at 19/3.

Hobart Hurricanes never recovered after that start, losing all of their wickets with just 88 runs on the board and handing a gift of a victory to Perth. Alana King was the pick of the bowlers for her figures of 3/19 from her 4 overs while Ainsworth and Campbell chipped in with a couple of wickets each to seal victory.

Perth Scorchers Women will be elated with their performance today and the fact that they have got off to a confidence boosting win here! Hobart Hurricanes Women meanwhile will go back to the drawing board and look to fix the issues to come back stronger in the next game!

Deepak: Poor shot selection from Gibson. She could have played sensibly and batted till the end but she decided to go for a wild hoick. It is the start of the tournament and nrr will play a crucial role in the latter part of the tournament.
15.5 L Mills to M Gibson
W WICKET! CAUGHT! That's it! A comprehensive victory for Perth in their season opener! Full length delivery, on the off stump, Gibson goes for a big shot but slices it high in the air towards point where the fielder gets underneath and takes a comfortable catch to seal the W!

Maisy Gibson is the last man in for Hurricanes.
Hobart Hurricanes are falling like nine pins and they should look to bat for 20 overs to better their nrr.
