That brings an end to our coverage for this game. Keep joining us for more cricketing action all around the globe. For now, this is Akshay Bhide, signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator Soumarya Dutta and scorer Yogesh Kumar. Until next time, cheers and goodbye.
Llyod Pope (Player of the Match) - "I was worried about containing the runs. Matt Short has been outstanding for us throughout the season. His performances speak for themselves and he also bowls up front. He has a lot of clarity and it has been important for us. It all seems like a blur for me but it's nice being familiar with the boys and I like playing here. I'm just hoping that we win in the finals and it would be great. "
Player of the Match: Lloyd Pope
4:36 PM IST, 10:06 PM Local Time: That’s it. The Adelaide Strikers qualify for the finals of the Big Bash League 2023-24. Their bowlers did a fine job of restricting Sydney Thunder to 140 before chasing it down comfortably in the 17th over to book a place in the knockout stages of the competition. This also means that the Melbourne Stars’ campaign comes to an end.

Matthew Short and D’Arcy Short opened the batting for the Strikers in the pursuit of 140 put by Thunder. Skipper Matthew played some fantastic shots and made good use of the mandatory powerplay. D’Arcy played the role of a second fiddle perfectly as they put 50 between them. Tanveer Sangha broke the 57-run opening stand by cleaning up D’Arcy on 15 in the seventh over.

There was no stopping Matthew at the other end as he kept hitting regular boundaries and didn’t allow Thunder to get back into the contest. Jake Weatherald walked out to bat at number and started aggressively. He along with his skipper made sure that they kept the required run rate under control.

Matthew Short brought up his fifty off just 28 balls. Thunder failed to create inroads as the Strikers chased down the total comfortably. Matthew Short and Weatherald remained unbeaten on 74 and 47 respectively to take their side home with nine wickets in hand and into the finals of BBL 2023-24.

Earlier, Sydney Thunder won the toss and opted to bat first. They had a decent start as Alex Hales and David Warner put 36 between them before the latter fell on 13 in the last over of the mandatory powerplay. Cameron Bancroft got a start but was run out on 14. Oliver Davies fell cheaply on four in the 10th over as Thunder were 75/3 at the halfway mark of their innings.

Hales looked good at the crease and played some beautiful strokes. He scored a 32-ball 43 before being outsmarted by Cameron Boyce. Alex Ross along with Matthew Gilkes tried to build a partnership in the middle overs. Ross departed on 16 while trying to up the ante and it helped the Strikers get back into the contest.

The Strikers bowled brilliantly at the back end of the innings and picked up regular wickets. Gilkes (18), Chris Green (19), and Daniel Sams (11*) tried hard but they failed to help their side finish with a flourish as they got knocked over on 140 in 19.2 overs. Lloyd Pope was exceptional with the ball for the Strikers as registered figures of 4/22 in his three overs. Jamie Overton also grabbed three scalps. Their batters then contributed to chase down the total comfortably and make it to the finals of Big Bash League 2023-24.

1lb LEG BYES and the Adelaide Strikers have booked themselves a place in the finals! It was sliding on the pads and Short tried to glance it away. It came of his pads and that's enough. The Strikers have won by 9 wickets and with 23 balls to spare here.
