17:02 PM IST, 22:32 PM Local Time: So that's that and it's Brisbane Heat that have secured yet another comfortable win by beating Melbourne Renegades by six wickets and 11 balls to spare while chasing a target of 163. As a result of that win, Heat continue to remain comfortably at the top spot in the points table.
After being invited to bat first, Melbourne Renegades didn't start off in the most ideal manner. Quinton de Kock was dismissed for a duck by Spencer Johnson after edging one to the fielder at slip.
Joe Clarke 7 (12), on the other hand, looked cagey throughout his innings. However, it was Jake Fraser-McGurk who impressed the most with his sheer display of power and timing. Fraser-McGurk 55 (23) smashed one four and a staggering number of seven sixes as it seemed he was batting on a completely different surface.
It was then Paul Walter who came in to bag the big wicket of Jake Fraser-McGurk as he got caught at the deep.
Brisbane Heat then kept chipping in with the wickets until Jonathan Wells 34 (24)* and Tom Rogers 20 (14) played some brief cameos to get their side to a first innings total worth defending.
For Heat, it was Paul Walter who topped the charts with the ball courtesy his spell of 3/27 from four overs.
As for the run chase, the opening duo of Colin Munro 12 (4) and Josh Brown 14 (9) started off the innings in a quickfire manner. However, it was mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman who bagged the big wicket of Munro through an LBW, which was soon followed up by Brown’s wicket off Kane Richardson in the very next delivery.
Nathan McSweeney 9 (15) didn’t have much to offer either as he got caught and bowled to Mujeeb. With the score being 45/3 from 5.2 overs, it seemed like the Melbourne Renegades were well and truly sniffing a chance of getting a win.
But that’s when the duo of Sam Billings 40 (29) Matt Renshaw 49 (37)* consolidated out there in the middle and constructed a mature partnership of 72 runs. Billings was eventually dismissed by Adam Zampa but his knock as well as the partnership with Renshaw eased off the pressure to a large degree.
Matt Renshaw made sure to stay there and anchor till the very end, whereas, it was then Paul Walter 30 (15)* who delivered the goods with the bat courtesy his belligerent knock that consisted of two fours and three sixes.
Although, Brisbane Heat secured another win, the Renegades did show some fight in bits throughout the course of the game. The Renegades will be hoping to show more consistency for bigger periods as they roll forward in the Big Bash League.
