That's it from our coverage of match number 2 in the Big Bash League! Ninaad Dixit here signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world.
Steve Smith (Player of the Match): "Yeah. I thought it was a great performance. They got off to a very good start. Fraser-McGurk played well and Finchy as well in the middle overs kept going. But we picked wickets in the Power Surge and got back in the contest.

We have stuck to the same guys for a long time now. We have got a very good culture. We know how to play here and hopefully, a big season for us.

I started well. Got stuck in the middle overs. Didn't get much strike but got some momentum in the end. I thought it was a reasonable total, maybe above par and happy to get across the line.

It was a pretty good crowd for the first game of the season. Always love playing here because of the support. I’m pretty chilled. I love playing in the Big Bash and opening the batting. You get the backing from the guys and really enjoyed playing here.

Fly tomorrow. Hopefully, it turns out to be a successful summer for us. Pakistan are a good side. They have got some dangerous players with both bat and ball and it will be a good contest.

I love playing at SCG. Wonderful track to bat on and it has been kind to me and I can’t wait to be back."
Player of the Match: Steve Smith
5:12 PM IST, 10:42 PM Local Time: The Sydney Sixers kick start their campaign at home with an 8-run victory against the Melbourne Renegades. Steven Smith and skipper Moises Henriques added some healthy runs to get the side to a par score of 175/6 before the bowlers came into the party.

Senior bowler Jackson Bird kick started the defence off in style dismissing Nic Maddinson in the first over itself. Joe Clarke departed inside the powerplay as well but it was Jake Fraser-McGurk who played some astonishing strokes in his knock of 48 in 24 balls that included 5 fours and 3 maximums.

He added 39 runs with Aaron Finch for the 4th wicket before being dismissed by Ben Dwarshuis. Finch didn't get going and was the 6th man to get out with 51 needed off 28 balls. Will Sutherland kept the 'Gades in hunt with an unbeaten 51 off 30 deliveries hitting 1 four and 4 timely sixes but with 22 needed off the final over and he being off the strike for the first couple of balls, the target became a bit too distant for the visitors.

Dwarshuis (3/36) was the pick of the bowlers and got good support from Steve O'Keefe (1/29), Sean Abbott (1/30), Jackson Bird (1/24) and the economic Tom Curran (0/23 in 4 overs). Sydney Sixers now sit at the second place in the points table behind Brisbane Heat who won the inaugural game yesterday.

Akshay: Jordan Silk has again shown how important fielding is in T20 cricket. That save on the boundary on the fourth ball. Just WOWWW!!!!
19.6 B Dwarshuis to W Sutherland
1 Short of a length on the leg stump, goes for a hard pull and lofts it towards wide long on, just a single and that's the game for the Sixers!
10 required from 1 now. A legal delivery and the Sixers will be home.
19.5 B Dwarshuis to W Sutherland
0 DOT BALL! Curtains for the Renegades!! Slower ball into the deck and outside off, swing and a miss from Sutherland who goes deep inside the crease. It pitched outside leg and finished well outside the off stump.
Jordan Silk, yet again, has stepped up in the field. He has saved two runs for his side with a full-length dive. Will Sutherland gets to his fifty. The Renegades require 10 runs from 2 balls.
19.4 B Dwarshuis to W Sutherland
2 JORDAN SILK YOU BEAUTY!! Saves a certain boundary with an acrobatic effort!! Short of a length slower ball outside the off stump. Sutherland heaves hard and connects well. Silk at deep midwicket runs to his left and leaps to throw his left hand at the ball, collects it cleanly to save a certain boundary.
12 required from 3 now.
19.3 B Dwarshuis to W Sutherland
2 Takes the pace off and bowls into the pitch outside the off stump. Sutherland waits for it and slaps it in the cow corner. Long on and deep midwicket converge and keep it to 2.
SIXXX!!!! Is Sutherland the man for the Renegades? The equation is down to 14 from 4 now. The Renegades' fans believe.
