Milestone
That's it from our end in the rain-hit encounter. India is up 1-0 in the series under the leadership of Jasprit Bumrah, his first win in any format as skipper. So here's the trio of Akshaya Krishna Polya, scorer/analyst Raju Khariya and myself Ninaad Dixit taking your leave. Stay tuned in right here for more cricketing action from around the globe.
Jasprit Bumrah (POTM and India Captain): "Ahhh... Nothing at all to report to the medical team. I am feeling good. I have been involved in many sessions at NCA (National Cricket Academy) and hence I really didn't feel like missing out. Credit to the staff, they kept me in good shape.

You are thinking about yourself, you are thinking of being there and playing. Not really, when you're captaining you are thinking more about the whole team and not just your own performance.

There was some help for me and other seam bowlers due to the weather and hence I was very happy. In every game, you always want more. You search for a perfect game. They (other seamers) also played well, credit to them for keeping the nerves in a crisis situation.

Everybody has a lot of belief in their game and I think the IPL also helps them. The group we have, they have a lot of confidence within them. It is a good sign for our team. It's always good to see them (crowd) come and support us wherever we go."
Player of the Match: Jasprit Bumrah
Barry McCarthy: "It's always nice to contribute for the team. Disappointed we didn't get over the line, would have been even better.

Me and Curtis knew that we needed a big score on the board. We both are quite aggressive players, we wanted to reinforce the team to a stronger position and play our shots.

Playing the positive way brings the game into the hands of somebody who gets a score. You take the game to the opposition is the best opportunity to score runs.

I will do any role for the team no matter what position I bat at."

10:59 PM IST and 6:29 PM Local Time: Moving onto the post-match presentations...
So an anticlimactic end to the first T20I of the three-match series between Ireland and India at Malahide. Recap to the 26.5 overs of the game we had this evening, India was led by Jasprit Bumrah making a comeback after 327 days, he won the toss and elected to field in overcast conditions.

Men in blue handed T20I debuts to Prasidh Krishna and Rinku Singh with Shivam Dube also making a long awaited comeback. Bumrah started the proceedings with 2 wickets in his first over finishing with 2/24.

Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers mixing his pace and variations well to get 2 wickets for 23 runs. Prasidh Krishna bowled well to get 2 wickets as well. Arshdeep Singh nailed a yorker in the fag end to dismiss Curtis Campher.

Barry McCarthy put in an astonishing performance at number 8 finishing with an unbeaten 51, the highest score by a batter at that number against India. His innings prompted Ireland out of danger to finish at 139/7 in the end.

In response, the new opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad got off to a tremendous start adding 45 runs in the powerplay and 46 for the opening wicket. Jaiswal was the first to depart playing a rash stroke against Craig Young who was on a hattrick removing Tilak Varma for a golden duck.

Sanju Samson negated the hattrick ball getting off the mark with a single but that was the only ball he could face as the rain picked up forcing the players off the field with India 2 runs ahead of the DLS total of 45 runs.

Young picked the 2 wickets in his first over right after the powerplay. Josh Little tried to keep things tight in the powerplay conceding 20 in his 3 overs but the early attack from Ruturaj and Jaiswal combining for 2 sixes and 4 fours was just enough for the men in blue to win the game and go 1-0 up in the series.

The second T20I will be played at the same venue on Sunday, August 20.
10:40 PM IST, 6:10 PM Local time: The umpires have a word with Jasprit Bumrah and there are handshakes. The match has been abandoned. India win by 2 runs due to the DLS method.
10:26 PM IST, 5:56 PM Local Time: According to the locals, the radar for the rest of the evening is not good and that should be it for the day then! But still, let us be optimistic and pray for the heavens to stop pouring down and allow the game to be completed.
Prasidh Krishna: "I have been with the group for a long time. I enjoyed the time. It was a great feeling. It was pretty cold when I came out here. It was tough to get warmed up with so much cold. Yeah, I have had fun. My family, friends all are happy with the debut. Could have been slightly better with the ball and I am not really happy with myself how I finished. It was a good start earlier but could not quite end up well."
10:13 PM IST, 5:43 PM Local Time: It's getting quite heavy now. It's coming down really hard.
9:54 PM IST, 5:24 PM Local Time: Rain is falling heavily. Ireland were desperate to stay there but no say the umpires. It seems to be too heavy and the ground staff run in with the covers. The players walk off the field. India are 47/2 after 6.5 overs and the DLS par total at this stage is 45/2. India are slightly ahead but not by much.
6.5 C Young to R Gaikwad
0 136 kph. Short and outside the off stump, Gaikwad hangs back allowing the ball to pass besides his right shoulder.
6.4 C Young to S Samson
1 Hattrick ball! Samson gets off the mark with a single. Short of a length outside off with a slip in place. Stands tall and runs it down to deep third man along the ground.
