Phew!!! Chinnaswamy never disappoints! If it does one, then they are to the bowlers! The innings of Fakhar Zaman kept Pakistan alive in the tournament. They live another day, and they live big time. Two crucial points and a positive net run rate! New Zealand have plenty to do now when they face Sri Lanka in their last league fixture, while Pakistan will face England in their last game of the round-robin round.

For now, this is me AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Akshay Bhide and Sidharth Gulati, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer brought you all the live-action of this entertaining fixture. A special mention to Yashaswee Raman, who gave important updates sitting at the venue. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!

This is how the points table looks like now 👇👇
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain): "When we came out to bat, we were confident about our chances. I told Fakhar (Zaman) to hang around for 15 overs, and we'll be ahead. Fakhar and I stitched a solid partnership. Fakhar was literally batting on a different wicket. We were aware that there was a short boundary, and we utilized it. We just want to give our best. Unfortunately, we couldn't do well in some games. Hopefully, we'll carry the momentum to our next fixture."
Kane Williamson (New Zealand Captain): "Yeah. Look obviously, a good first half but the weather plays a part but can't take anything away from Pakistan's top-order. Fakhar played a fantastic knock and the ground was not big enough for him. For us, it will be about taking positives from this game and moving forward.

They played exceptionally well. They gave themselves every chance and they finished on the winning side. They were on target in the chase. It would have been good if we had a full 50 overs game but we have to move on quickly. It was hard to shut the short side against him.

Yeah. Sort of. We would have gotten 450 actually. The surface was good and it's hard on the bowlers. Rachin again. He's batting beautifully and we can hope that he continues. There are small margins with the ball. You could take the short boundary out and break the left-hand and right-hand combination but they played well and came out on top."
Fakhar Zaman (Player of the Match): "Definitely. We were chasing 400+ and our plan was to see off the first four overs. It was my day and I was feeling a bit lucky also. Really happy with the innings.

We know that every game is a do-or-die for us. So the management decided that we will play aggressively. Either we will score 100 and all out or 350.

This is one of the best. But still, I will rate my 193 against South Africa as the best. New Zealand are a good side and it was good to score against them today.

We were also praying that. The run rate was nine and a half and DLS came. It is cricket and we are happy to finish on the winning side."

The partnership that has kept Pakistan alive in World Cup 2023 👇👇

Take a minute and appreciate the heroics of Fakhar Zaman! He has been simply sensational. New Zealand would be rueing the fact that despite posting 401 runs on the board, they have come second to Pakistan. What else the smiling assassin Kane Williamson can do? Well, that's cricket for you, and that's Chinnaswamy for you.

Earlier in the game, Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra gave a sublime start, adding 68 runs for the opening wicket, and this was the Kiwis' highest opening partnership in this World Cup. Hasan Ali bounced out Conway (35 off 39) and completed 100 ODI wickets.

In came Williamson at number 3 and batted magnificently. The Kiwi skipper and young Ravindra were involved in a massive 180-run partnership for the 2nd wicket and put the Pakistani bowlers in deep waters. While Ravindra (108 off 94) hammered his 3rd ODI and World Cup hundred, entertaining his parents' native crowd in Bengaluru, Williamson (95 off 79) fell short of a well-deserved 100, courtesy of Iftikhar Ahmed.

New Zealand had plenty of cameos in the middle order, with Daryl Mitchell (29 off 18), Mark Chapman (39 off 27), Glenn Phillips (41 off 25) and Mitchell Santner (26* off 17) just helping the Black Caps get to their first ever 400+ total in the World Cups.

Shaheen Shah Afridi (10-0-90-0) was taken to the cleaners and bagged an unwanted record of being the most expensive bowler in the Pakistani camp in the history of World Cups. Hasan Ali (1/82) and Haris Rauf (1/85) were also taken to the cleaners. Mohammad Wasim Jr, with figures of 10-0-60-3, was Pakistan's best bowler, with Iftikhar Ahmed scalping the big fish Williamson.

Rain delayed the run-chase of 402 by a time period, and once the second innings started, Tim Southee removed Abdullah Shafique cheaply in the 2nd over, only to see a massive partnership coming between Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam. The experienced batting pair added an unbeaten 194 runs for the second wicket, and it was some thumpings, especially by Fakhar.

The southpaw continued from where he left off in the previous game and smoked 11 sixes and 8 fours, smashing a sizzling ton and getting the Chinnawamy crowd on their feet. Fakhar hit one maximum after the other, pushing the New Zealand bowler to a corner and remaining unbeaten on 126 from 81 balls. On the other hand, skipper Babar (66* off 63) hit the fourth fifty of this tournament and didn't lose momentum despite the rain interrupting the game more than once.

During the first delay, Pakistan were 10 runs ahead of the DLS score, and it was a delay of more than 90 minutes. The revised target was set to be 342 in 41 overs, with Pakistan resuming from 160/1 after 21.3 overs. Fakhar and Babar hit 20 runs in a Ish Sodhi over before the rain arrived in the 26th over to sprint towards the dressing room with all smiles as Pakistan were 21 runs ahead on the DLS.

Pakistan were at 200/1 in 25.3 overs, and the DLS par score at that stage was 179. The rain that came for the third time in the day didn't allow any further opportunity for the officials to get the game resuming, and hence the Asian side was declared the winner.

Stay tuned for the presentations!
