Men in Blue continued their domination in the World Cup 2023. They win 6 out of 6 games and move to the top of the points table, while the defending champions can only hide their face after having lost five of their 6 matches, glueing to the bottom of the table.

For now, this is AkshayaKrishna Polya signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide, who, alongside our scorers/analysts Zeeshan Naiyer and Raju Khariya, brought you all the live-action of this enthralling fixture. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!

This is the 59th win for India in World Cups. They move above New Zealand who have got 58. Australia sit at the top position, having won 73 games in World Cups.

Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "It was that time. Test of character, and I think the boys have come on the top. All of the experienced players came to the fore and stood up at the right time.

Looking at how the tournament has gone for us, batting second for five straight times, batting first today was a different challenge. All of England's bowlers bowled well, especially with the new ball. We were not great with the bat and lost wickets regularly. Losing 3 wickets around the Powerplay, it was tough going for us. You have to then create a long partnership, which we did. But a lot of them threw their wickets away, including me, at the end (shares a chuckle). We needed to put a total on the board in which we could manage something. At the halfway stage, I thought that we were around 30 runs short.

It's not something you see every day, especially when the total you had on the board. Special performance from the bowlers. Seamers first and then the spinners. All of the seamers are now well experienced and have given us the confidence to do well despite the low total. Our seamers exploited the conditions very well, there was swing and lateral movement available.

I think we have a good balance now. Three seamers and two quality spinners. Seamers bring the experience, while the spinners have plenty of quality. When you have a bowling line up like that, it's important that the batters give them something to bowl at and show their magic."

Jos Buttler (England Captain): "Yeah. Very disappointed. At the halfway stage, we fancied ourselves to chase 230 but it was the same old story with the bat.

The gut feeling was we wanted to chase, whether dew came or not. Our bowling has been great but again the batting was disappointing. I think we have to be committed to that. I felt I had to stay there as the Indian bowlers were bowling well and had to soak in the pressure. I tried to stay there but you have to be committed and it wasn't to be.

Some tough players in there but we are a long way from our best.

Excellent. Great start in the powerplay. The guys found some movement and some invariable bounce. The ground fielding was also brilliant. That time, it felt like today was the day but it wasn't to be.

(On Champions Trophy 2025 Qualification) We are aware of that and it's still lots to play for. Thank you."
Rohit Sharma (Player of the Match): "Yeah. Looking at where we were, after 10 overs, it was important to create that partnership. Myself and KL had that partnership. The wicket was challenging at the start but it got better as the game progressed.

Obviously, I have got the experience to bat according to the situation. When you have that experience, you do what the team needs. It was important for me to take the game deep. I feel we still were 30-40 runs short but happy with the performance of the bowlers.

Playing against the new ball was challenging. They were getting some movement with the new ball but as I dug in, it became easier to bat on. I still feel we were 30-40 runs short but I will definitely take the win any day."
Player of the Match: Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma bags a win on his 100th India appearance as captain.
This is the first time that England have lost four World Cup matches in a row.
STAT ATTACK - India's fourth victory over England in ODI World Cups, and first in 20 years.
9:21 PM IST and Local Time: It's all over for England. They have lost 4 games in a row! The defending champions are not here to defend the title now. On the other end, a clinical performance from India get them 6 wins in a row as they firmly stay at the pole position!

Rohit Sharma would be mighty pleased with this performance as they batted first for the first time and also didn't have too many to defend with.

Earlier in the game, England won the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision was proved right by their new ball bowlers, Chris Woakes and David Willey knocked over the Indian top order except for the skipper Rohit Sharma, who read the pitch very well and played accordingly. While Shubman Gill got a top-notch delivery from Woakes, Virat Kohli succumbed under the pressure of 8 dot balls before losing his shape, trying to break the shackles off Wilely. Woakes bowled a long spell of 7 overs and bounced out Shreyas Iyer to reduce India to 40/3 in the 12th over.

Rohit was simply outstanding with his approach and shot selection, bailing Team India out of trouble with a partnership of 91 runs for the fourth wicket alongside KL Rahul. Buttler asked Willey to break the partnership, and the left-armer accepted the task and executed it perfectly by removing the well-set Rahul (39 off 58) in the 31st over. Hitman (87 off 101) continued his good form and went on to score an excellent fifty and was holed out in the deep trying to smash Adil Rashid out of the park in the 37th over.

India lost a flurry of wickets in the last half of the innings and were in fear of not batting the entire 50 overs. Suryakumar Yadav (49 off 47 played a magnificent hand, getting some support from the Indian tailenders, especially from Jasprit Bumrah. SKY holed out in the deep in the 47th over, but Bumrah and Kuldeep showed some resilience to play 50 overs and help India post a competitive score of 229/9.

For England, David Willey was the successful bowler with figures of 10-2-45-3. Chris Woakes (2/33) and Adil Rashid (2/35) scalped a couple of wickets, while Mark Wood (1/46) bagged one wicket.

England openers- Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow started off nicely, adding 30 runs for the first wicket. But what transpired later was just a complete humiliation. Jaspirt Bumrah and Mohammed Shami broke the backbone of England in the chase before the spinners entered the stage. Bumrah removed Malan and Joe Root in consecutive deliveries of the 5th over and initiated a massive collapse. Shami knocked over Ben Stokes and Bairstow a few overs later and shattered England's dreams, reducing the defending champions to 39/4 inside the first Powerplay.

Kuldeep Yadav bowled a dream delivery for a chinaman bowler and left the English skipper out of the words as Buttler got outfoxed completely. Kuldeep bowled a leg break delivery on a length pitching outside off and turning in a long way to hit the stumps with Jos the Boss having no answer.

Moeen Ali and Liam Livingstone held the fort for a while, only to delay the inevitable as Shami and co returned to put England on the sword. Bumrah bowled an inch-perfect yorker to hit the base of the leg stump, sending the last batter, Mark Wood, packing in the 35th over to end the contest!

For India, Mohammed Shami was in top rhythm with figures of 7-2-22-4. Jasprit Bumrah finished with figures of 6.5-1-32-3. Kuldeep Yadav scalped two wickets while Jadeja had one under his belt.

England were bundled out for a mere 129 runs in 34.5 overs, with the hosts winning by a massive margin of exactly 100 runs!

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!
