Breathe a sigh of relief! Pakistan are always an unpredictable team, and once again, they prove it. The same goes for South Africa, especially when they are chasing the target. A roller coaster of the highest order. Everyone wanted the thriller, and tonight, they have one. It was an unbelievable game with a lot of ups and downs. At the end of it all, South Africa held their nerves and went past Pakistan by the barest of the margins. They move to the top of the points table, and we have a double-header tomorrow! Two banger games coming your way, and both have their own standards!

10:34 PM IST and Local Time: Everyone wanted the thriller, and here it comes! Chennai delivered the nail-biter, and it swung like a pendulum! Boy, plenty of ups and downs and at the end of it all, it's South Africa who came on top of it, beating Pakistan by just 1 wicket with 16 balls to spare! Kudos to everyone who was part of this cliffhanger and plenty of nails have been bitten. Phew!!!!
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Marco Jansen removed both the openers early and rocked the Men in Green really hard. The middle and lower order got started, but none of them continued to take Pakistan to a big score. A couple of 40+ partnerships for the 3rd and 4th wicket, with Babar Azam being coming in both. He scored his 3rd fifty in this World Cup and was out in a freakish manner on his score of 50 from 65 balls. Rizwan (31 off 27) and Iftikhar Ahmed (21 off 31) hit a few cracking shots but failed to bat long.
Saud Shakeel (52 off 52) and Shadab Khan (43 off 36) batted tremendously well, adding 84 runs for the 6th wicket and putting a lot of pressure on South Africa. Shakeel held his nerve excellently and hit a craft half-century. Mohammad Nawaz (24 off 24) came up with a run-a-ball cameo, and with the Proteas bowling well in the death overs, they bundled Pakistan out for 270 in 46.4 overs.
Tabraiz Shamsi came into the side and was the main weapon of South Africa, with figures of 10-0-60-4. Jansen (9-1-43-3) was the next best in the bowling attack, while Coetzee bagged a couple of wickets and Lungi Ngidi picked one wicket.
Chasing for the only second time in this World Cup, South Africa were off to a flyer with the man in form, Quinton de Kock thrashing Shaheen Shah Afridi for 19 runs in his first over. However, Shaheen came back strongly and had his revenge on QDK (24 off 14) in the next over.
Temba Bavuma (28 off 27) and Rassie van der Dussen looked rusty during their stays and failed to contribute noticeably. Bavuma and van der Dussen (21 off 39) had a partnership of 33 runs, while RVD and Aiden Markram had added 54 runs for the 4th wicket.
Pakistan found wickets at regular intervals, with Heinrich Klaasen, too, getting out cheaply, leaving the South Africa vice-captain alone at the other end. Markram stood tall and batted gloriously, hammering 91 runs off 93 balls and keeping South Africa way ahead of the required run rate. He got an able partner in David Miller, who hit a few monstrous sixes and stitched a 70-run stand for the 5th wicket.
When Markram and Miller were batting, it looked like South Africa were cruising. But Shaheen came back for a burst and changed the context of the game in no time. He bowled with a great rhythm and removed Killer-Miller (29 off 33) in the 34th over, breaking the game wide open.
Marco Jansen (20 off 14) hit a few big shots and was in a hurry, but Haris Rauf had the last laugh on the tall right-hander. Shaheen and Rauf bowled their heart out but failed to close the game out for Pakistan. While Shaheen removed Coetzee, Rauf grabbed a stunner off his own bowling to send Lungi Ngidi back into the pavilion.
