Breathe a sigh of relief! Pakistan are always an unpredictable team, and once again, they prove it. The same goes for South Africa, especially when they are chasing the target. A roller coaster of the highest order. Everyone wanted the thriller, and tonight, they have one. It was an unbelievable game with a lot of ups and downs. At the end of it all, South Africa held their nerves and went past Pakistan by the barest of the margins. They move to the top of the points table, and we have a double-header tomorrow! Two banger games coming your way, and both have their own standards!

For now, I am AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Akshay Bhide and helping buddies Ajay Ahire and Sidharth Gulati. The scorer/analyst of this nail-biter was Zeeshan Naiyer- a big cheer to the main man! We will meet again. Until then, its cheers!
Keshav Maharaj celebrating after hitting the winning runs 👇👇
Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain): "Guys are enjoying at the moment and it's all chaos in the dressing room, Nail biting finish here and especially since you are a South African fan it must be great. And as said You need to have guys there in a pressure situation like this.

Still enjoying the victory but we'll look forward to what went wrong. We have a blueprint regarding the batting first scenario and also the same while we are chasing the total. And we try to give our best all the time.

KG is having a back spasm and needs some rest. But hopefully, he will be back for the NZ game. Superb batting from the senior pros in the end to get us over the line."
Babar Azam (Pakistan Captain): "Yes, to be honest. We were very close but disappointed not to finish on the winning side.

We fought back very well. In the batting we, were 10-15 runs short. But the way we bowled was good. The spinners and the pacers were brilliant.

To be honest, it's part of the game. If the umpire had given OUT, it would have favored us. It's Umpire's Call on the drs and we have to take it.

We showed great fight and took the game to the last over. If we had won this game, we would have kept ourselves alive in the competition.

Yes. We will try our best in the next three matches. We will look to be at our best and play for Pakistan."
Tabraiz Shamsi (Player of the Match): "Thank you very much. Thanks a lot. Yeah. Really happy. Obviously, I knew I had to do the job there. While bowling at a set batter, it's not easy and the credit to the boys for the way they bowled upfront.

You have played enough cricket to understand that sometimes it goes your way and sometimes it doesn't go your way. Probably, shouldn't have been here with the pads on but I will take it.

If I thought of playing a big shot, we would have been in the dressing room. These are the moments that you work hard for. But Keshav was sensational with the bat and credit to Lungi as well."
Player of the Match: Tabraiz Shamsi

South Africa vs Pakistan Chennai - Today
10:34 PM IST and Local Time: Everyone wanted the thriller, and here it comes! Chennai delivered the nail-biter, and it swung like a pendulum! Boy, plenty of ups and downs and at the end of it all, it's South Africa who came on top of it, beating Pakistan by just 1 wicket with 16 balls to spare! Kudos to everyone who was part of this cliffhanger and plenty of nails have been bitten. Phew!!!!

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. Marco Jansen removed both the openers early and rocked the Men in Green really hard. The middle and lower order got started, but none of them continued to take Pakistan to a big score. A couple of 40+ partnerships for the 3rd and 4th wicket, with Babar Azam being coming in both. He scored his 3rd fifty in this World Cup and was out in a freakish manner on his score of 50 from 65 balls. Rizwan (31 off 27) and Iftikhar Ahmed (21 off 31) hit a few cracking shots but failed to bat long.

Saud Shakeel (52 off 52) and Shadab Khan (43 off 36) batted tremendously well, adding 84 runs for the 6th wicket and putting a lot of pressure on South Africa. Shakeel held his nerve excellently and hit a craft half-century. Mohammad Nawaz (24 off 24) came up with a run-a-ball cameo, and with the Proteas bowling well in the death overs, they bundled Pakistan out for 270 in 46.4 overs.

Tabraiz Shamsi came into the side and was the main weapon of South Africa, with figures of 10-0-60-4.
Jansen (9-1-43-3) was the next best in the bowling attack, while Coetzee bagged a couple of wickets and  Lungi Ngidi picked one wicket.

Chasing for the only second time in this World Cup, South Africa were off to a flyer with the man in form, Quinton de Kock thrashing Shaheen Shah Afridi for 19 runs in his first over. However, Shaheen came back strongly and had his revenge on QDK (24 off 14) in the next over.

Temba Bavuma (28 off 27) and Rassie van der Dussen looked rusty during their stays and failed to contribute noticeably. Bavuma and van der Dussen (21 off 39) had a partnership of 33 runs, while RVD and Aiden Markram had added 54 runs for the 4th wicket.

Pakistan found wickets at regular intervals, with Heinrich Klaasen, too, getting out cheaply, leaving the South Africa vice-captain alone at the other end. Markram stood tall and batted gloriously, hammering 91 runs off 93 balls and keeping South Africa way ahead of the required run rate. He got an able partner in David Miller, who hit a few monstrous sixes and stitched a 70-run stand for the 5th wicket.

When Markram and Miller were batting, it looked like South Africa were cruising. But Shaheen came back for a burst and changed the context of the game in no time. He bowled with a great rhythm and removed Killer-Miller (29 off 33) in the 34th over, breaking the game wide open.

Marco Jansen (20 off 14) hit a few big shots and was in a hurry, but Haris Rauf had the last laugh on the tall right-hander. Shaheen and Rauf bowled their heart out but failed to close the game out for Pakistan. While Shaheen removed Coetzee, Rauf grabbed a stunner off his own bowling to send Lungi Ngidi back into the pavilion.

Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi kept surviving each of the bowlers and ticked the runs in a safe manner. One of the appeals from Rauf saw the umpire's call on the leg stump, with Shamsi surviving a major scare. Shaheen (10-0-45-3) and Rauf (10-0-62-2) bowled out, Wasim Jr (10-1-50-2) just bowled his overs, and Babar was searching for the bowler. He asked Nawaz to get the last wicket, with South Africa needing 5 runs in the last 3 overs. Shamsi (4* off 6) took the single off the first ball, and then Maharaj (7* off 21) held his nerves to hit a boundary through backward square leg to give South Africa their 5th win in this tournament.

But yet we haven't mentioned who was the main game changer! Usama Mir (8-0-45-2) picked the wickets of Rassie and Markram and bowled with a lot of heart. One might be thinking, where did Usama come in? Shadab Khan got hit on his head while fielding in the first over and was taken off the field. Later after a few overs, Shadab was concussed, and Mir was the concussion substitute. Mir stood calm under pressure and delivered for his skipper with the wicket of Markram in the 41st over, almost being the match-winner!

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!
STAT ATTACK - This is the first time Pakistan have lost four games in a row in ODI World Cups.
Sidharth: Keshav Maharaj, you beauty! Keeps his cool and guides South Africa to victory. Remember - a few months ago he was in danger of missing the World Cup due to an achilles injury. And now, he's here and doing the job for his team. What a player!
Ajay: This time for Africaaa 🔥 What a game we had at the Chepauk. Keshav Maharaj keeps his cool and gets his team over the line.
Akshay: KESHAV MAHARAJ!!!!! What a knock he has played under immense pressure. Takes off his helmet and lets out a big roar. Incredible scenes here at the Chepauk. The Pakistan players are on the ground. The celebrations begin in the South African dressing room. The fireworks go off. What a match we have just witnessed. The first thriller in this edition of the World Cup.
