From bashing Sri Lanka and Australia to being bashed by Netherlands, the Temba Bavuma-led side has been pulled down from cloud nine! This World Cup has been opened up now. Afghanistan and Netherlands tasted success, while England and South Africa have been given bitter pill to swallow. Tomorrow, we have one such encounter coming our way as New Zealand take on Afghanistan at Chennai.

For now, it's me AkshayaKrishna Polya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator, Akshay Bhide, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Zeeshan Naiyer brought you a banger of a fixture from the World Cup 2023. We will meet again. Until then, it's cheers!
Scott Edwards (Netherlands Captain): "Yes, obviously, extremely happy. We came into the tournament with high expectations. We had a very good bunch of players. It was a good one, and I am happy to get the first win out of the way. We are now hoping for a few more wins.

Yeah, we do a fair bit of research on the opponents as well. We came up with matchups, and that worked for us again. Some days it does work, and some days it doesn't.

See, we were in a good position in the recent games, but we fell away in the last stages of those games.

I am sure that there will be plenty of fans staying up and watching us play. We are extremely happy with this win."
Temba Bavuma (South Africa Captain): "I think we got them to 112/6, we should have restricted them below 200. But while batting, we were confident of chasing down the total. But we didn't get any partnerships. Credit to them for bowling well.

We were clinical against Australia. But the challenge is always to come back and replicate the same performance. Bowling 32 extras is not good. It should have been controlled and that will be spoken about.

Fielding wasn't up to the mark. The way we fielded against Australia, it was good but today we were not up to the standard we have maintained. The boys will have some time to reflect on this performance.

You have to let the emotions seep in. There is no point in trying to forget. Let this loss hurt and come back tomorrow with your head held high.

It was a proper display from them. To get to that total after being on 112/6, credit goes to them. They also bowled well and kept us under constant pressure. It shows that they were well-prepared for today's fixture."

Scott Edwards (Player of the Match): "I think over the last couple of games, our issue has been losing wickets before the innings ends. So I just thought of sticking around and I was supported nicely from the other end.

It's good fun to bat with Roelof. He hits in some strange areas and runs hard between the wickets, which is always challenging. I just tried to get him on strike and he was clearing the ropes. Certainly one of the best hitting I have seen in a while, especially from a number 10 batter.

Really proud of the boys. We came into the tournament and hoped to play in the semi-finals. To do so, we have to beat the top teams and South Africa are certainly favorites in this tournament. So happy to get over the line."

11:01 PM IST and Local Time: This World Cup continues to upset big teams! Then England against Afghanistan, and now South Africa succumbed to a defeat at the hands of Netherlands. First time the Netherlands have beaten a Test-playing nation in the ODI World Cup! It will take some time for the Proteas to swallow this bitter pill. Remember, South Africa were knocked out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 by the same Netherlands...

Let's recap the long day! The match began after a delay of two hours due to heavy rain with the match being reduced down to 43 overs per side. South Africa won the toss and opted to bowl first under favourable conditions for seam bowling. The Dutch openers- Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd, weathered the storm for a few overs before the South African pacers hit their mark. The wickets fell at regular intervals, and Netherlands were struggling at 140/7 in the 34th over. A few of the Dutch batters got to starts, but none of them failed to trouble the African nation until Roelof van der Merwe walked out to bat number 9.

The former South African played a few unbelievable strokes and built confidence in Scott Edwards, who joined hands together to change the complexion of the game. The duo added 64 runs for the 8th wicket, which was followed by another excellent partnership (unbeaten 41 runs) for the 9th wicket between skipper Edwards and Aryan Dutt. The Dutch skipper hit a magnificent half-century and remained unbeaten at 78 off 69 balls, while van der Merwe scored 29 off 19 balls, and Dutt was unbeaten at 23 off just 9 balls, shifting the momentum completely in the Orange camp.

For South Africa, Ngidi, Rabada and Jansen picked a couple of wickets, while Coetzee and Maharaj scalped a wicket each.

Scott Edwards was brilliant as captain, too, as he changed the bowlers regularly according to the match-ups and conditions. The openers Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock did get to decent starts, but once QDK fell, Netherlands believed in themselves.

Wickets fell like a pack of cards, and South Africa were reduced to 44/4 at one stage. Heinrich Klaasen (28 off 28) and David Miller added 45 runs for the 5th wicket, giving the Proteas one glimmer of hope. de Leede dropped a high ball on Miller, and it could have been costly, but the Orange Army did brilliantly by killing the contest with Logan van Beek knocking over Killer Miller (43 off 52) in the 31st over.

Coetzee and Maharaj played their shots and scored some handy runs in the bag end of the run chase. Coetzee scored 22 in 23 balls. Maharaj was the last man to get out in the 43rd over, but not before scoring 40 off 37 balls and adding 41 runs for the last wicket with number 11 Lungi Ngidi.

South Africa were bundled out for 207 with a ball left and bowed down by 38 runs to the Dutch. Logan van Beek was the successful bowler with figures of 8.5-0-60-3. van der Merwe, Paul van Meekeren and Bas de Leede scalped a couple of wickets each and were pretty economical in all phases of the game. The off-spinners shared one wicket between them but were again very tidy with the ball.

Stay tuned for the post-match presentations!

42.5 Beek to K Maharaj
W OUT! South Africa's worst nightmares have come true! Netherlands complete a historic victory over South Africa. THE ORANGE FLAVOR IS ALL OVER THE PROTEAS! Slower bouncer, angling into the batter, who looks to play it over third-man, Maharaj backs away, the ball hits his gloves and Netherlands' skipper and keeper Scott Edwards takes a simple catch. Well done, Netherlands! This tournament has come alive. First Afghanistan and now Netherlands - cricket fans, fasten your seat belts! We are about to have a memorable ride.
42.4 Beek to K Maharaj
6 SIXXXXX!!!! Keshav Maharaj has nailed this one! Length ball outside off. Slower ball into the pitch. Maharaj backs away and flat bats it downtown. Up and over straight long-off for a six. Maharaj gets into the 40s.
200 up for South Africa.
