The first two T20I of the 5-match series are washed out by the rain, and one hopes the rain god stays away from the last three T20I. Time to conclude our coverage as well. Thank you for staying with us. For now, it's Deepak Prakash signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Saptak Sanyal, and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. CHEERS!
8:48 PM IST, 17:18 Local Time: Bad news, folks! The match has been abandoned. The rain has had the final say in the second T20I as well and the 5-match T20I series is now unofficially a 3-match series.
8:45 PM IST, 17:15 Local Time: The rain has stopped and the covers are being peeled off again.
8:35 PM IST, 17:05 Local Time: The match officials stride out to the middle for the inspection and head straightaway to the sawdust applied area which is the primary concern for them. Now they have a chat with the head of the groundsmen. One of the match officials has opened up his umbrella โ˜‚ now, seems like it's still drizzling a bit. We can see the dark cloud looming over here. The lights are on,  and now the groundsmen are bringing on the covers back.
20:25 IST and 16:55 Local Time | The good news from the ground is that the groundsmen are removing the covers as the rain has stopped.
8:14 PM IST, 16:44 Local Time: The drizzle has turned into heavy rain, and more covers are being brought in now. This ground has already taken lots of water in the last couple of days. To give you an update, we had a delayed start of 60 minutes due to wet outfield, and we might start losing overs right away.
8:03 PM IST, 16:33 Local Time: It has started to drizzle here at Buffalo Park, East London, and the groundsmen are covering the pitch. But the good news is, Makhaya Ntini on air says it's a passing shower. Hopefully, it will pass away soon. It looks like the drizzle has gotten a bit heavier now but the sun is also out, and a rainbow๐ŸŒˆ is clearly seen at the venue.
19:54 IST and 16:24 Local Time | New Zealand finished at 111 for 9 after the 20th over. Thanks to a well-made 45 by Maddy Green as she scored a 36-ball 45.

After they were sent to bat, Kiwi openers Suzie Bates and the debutant Kate Anderson started watchfully. They were hitting boundaries in the loose balls but were giving away a lot of dot balls. Suzie departed after making 14 runs. Anderson got out on 19. Interestingly both the batters were run out as a result of misunderstanding with their partners. Experienced Amelia Kerr got out cheaply on 3 and Sophie Devine also fell scoring just 2.

Kiwis were 46 for 4 after the first 10 overs. They overcame the situation as Maddy Green stepped up. She was scoring runs consistently even after her partners departed cheaply. Brooke Halliday scored just 7, another debutant Bella Armstrong scored 11. Green hit a couple of boundaries and an equal number of sixes to help her team go past 100 run mark.

In the end, she remained unbeaten on 45 facing 36 deliveries with a strike rate of 125.

For the Proteas, Chloe Lesleigh Tryon was the star of the bowling as she finished with a bowling figure of 4-0-15-4. Nonkululeko Mlaba bowled economically to finish with an economy of 3 with a wicket. Nadine de Klerk also scalped a wicket.

112 is going to be a challenging ask and Kiwis need to bowl tight to restrict their opposition.

Carson departs here! New Zealand finished at 111 for 9.
19.6 A Khaka to M Green
1W Much full and on the stumps. Green makes room and drills it straight down the ground. The long-on fielder moves to her left and fires it at the bowler's end. Green was looking for the second run but failed to complete it. New Zealand Women are restricted to 111/9 in 20 overs.
19.5 A Khaka to M Green
2 Full-length on the stumps. Green heaves it down the ground and a misfield by the long-on fielder allows them to return for the second run.
19.4 A Khaka to M Green
0 Full-length and followed Green. Green looks to whip it away but misses as the ball goes through her legs to the keeper. Brilliant work by Jafta behind the stumps.
