01:56 IST and 21:26 Local Time | Saptak:- The 3rd quarter final of the Vitality Blast T20 tournament 2023 between Nottinghamshire and Somerset was a thrilling encounter that kept the spectators on the edge of their seats until the very end. Nottinghamshire won the toss and elected to bat first, but their innings got off to a shaky start as they lost three wickets within the first 20 runs. However, their middle-order batsmen showed great resilience and managed to stage a remarkable recovery.

Matthew Montgomery played a crucial innings, scoring a fine half-century with his well-timed strokes and intelligent shot selection. His knock of 51 provided stability to the Nottinghamshire innings. Samit Patel also contributed significantly with his composed batting, adding a valuable 30 runs to the team's total. The explosive hitting of Imad Wasim towards the end of the innings was instrumental in pushing the score to a competitive 157. His quickfire 31 off just 15 balls injected momentum into the innings.

Somerset's bowling attack put up a commendable performance, with Lewis Gregory and Craig Overton being the standout performers, each picking up two wickets. Their efforts helped restrict Nottinghamshire from posting an even bigger total.

In the chase, Somerset found themselves losing wickets at regular intervals, making the target seem challenging. However, Will Smeed and Tom Abell played vital innings of 22 and 26 runs respectively, steadying the innings to some extent. But when the equation came down to 95 runs needed from 62 balls, captain Lewis Gregory took charge of the situation.

Lewis Gregory showcased exceptional leadership skills and delivered a brilliant knock of 57 runs, displaying his ability to handle pressure. His partnership with Ben Green, who contributed 35 runs, proved to be the turning point in Somerset's chase. The duo showed great determination and skill to keep their team in the hunt.
With three balls remaining, Somerset successfully reached the target, thanks to the outstanding performances of Lewis Gregory and Ben Green.

The victory was a result of their calculated batting approach and their ability to seize crucial moments in the game.
Nottinghamshire's bowling effort was commendable, with Calvin Harrison and Imad Wasim each picking up two wickets. However, their efforts were not enough to prevent Somerset from clinching the victory.

Overall, the match was a perfect showcase of T20 cricket, filled with thrilling moments, excellent batting performances, and competitive bowling. The players from both teams displayed their skills and determination, making it an entertaining contest for the fans.
That's the winning run and Somerset is through to the semifinals.
