So, that’s it from the fourth MLC 2023 encounter. It was a comfortable victory for Seattle Orcas and they win two games on the bounce now. Stay tuned for more cricketing action from around the world. For now, this is Megh Mandaliya, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ayan Chatterjee alongside our scorer/analyst Raju Khariya. Cheers!
Wayne Parnell (Seattle Orcas Captain): "Like I said at the toss, I was a little bit unsure. I think we broke the curse last night chasing. I just had a gut feeling batting first on this surface could help us post a decent score. It was a very good game. They got off to a flyer thanks to me but the credit goes to the credit of his group for dragging it back. It is just about keeping things really simple and sticking to the basics. Sometimes you really want to impress the franchise and world-class players.  For the younger guys, it's all about learning from the experienced players. We don't wanna complicate things."
Aaron Finch (San Francisco Unicorns Captain): "I think we got ourselves into a good position and we lost wickets at regular intervals. The bowlers did well to bring us back in the game but we lost wickets at the wrong time. These are professional players. We are used to it. Yes, heat is a factor here but I think we were beaten by the better side on the day. Seattle deserved the win to be honest. Little areas to work on and hopefully we will bounce back soon."
Heinrich Klaasen (Player of the Match): "Yes, good to get another victory under your belt. You have to be very aggressive against the spinners. I knew we were just one or two boundaries away from getting going especially considering the shorter dimension of the ground. My goal was to try to get the bad ball away against the spinner. I had fallen into the trap before. So, it was all about just going all over again before every game and I try to learn my lesson. I always start on zero on every game."
Power Hitter of the Day: Matthew Wade
Play of the Day: Heinrich Klaasen
Cameron Gannon: "Feels great, Great to get off to a great start. The crowd is great and the enthusiasm is great. It's always a challenge when you have a line up like that. Wade, Finch. So, we tried to be smart and used the facilities and we got the job done. I think we have a right balance and the guys have performed well. Fantastic group of people and I am enjoying it.

I was full initially. Then be back of a length and then hit the deck hard. It's been good hard cricket and fun cricket.

The standards lift itself with six overseas players and good to be a part of this tournament. Yes, a great tournament in prospect."
9:32 AM IST, 11:02 PM Local Time | That will do it for the Seattle Orcas! A resounding victory for the Wayne Parnell-led side and they have emerged victorious for the second time in the competition. It was a sensational bowling performance from the Orcas that bundled out the Unicorns for 142. The Orcas would be chuffed with this effort and they're off to a flying start in the maiden season of MLC. Cameron Gannon will grab the headlines for bagging a brilliant four-wicket haul.

Chasing a challenging score of 178, the opening pair of Finn Allen and Matthew Wade propelled the San Francisco Unicorns to a rollicking start. The left-handed Wade started the assault by cutting loose in the second over before the Kiwi batter Allen teed off in the following over and thumped the opposition skipper Wayne Parnell for 22 runs. That over included 4 fours and 1 maximum. The right-handed Allen threw his wicket away after a blistering knock of 28(10) owing to a lethargic effort in running between the wickets.

Wade continued his onslaught by smashing Imad Wasim for three consecutive boundaries in the 5th over before the left-arm spinner took retribution and cleaned up the Aussie batter for 28(16). Despite losing two wickets, the early pyrotechnics by Wade and Allen helped the Unicorns orchestrate 67 runs off the powerplay. The Australian duo of Marcus Stoinis and Aaron Finch failed to capitalize on the laid foundation and slowed down the innings. Both the batters fall victim to left-arm spin and the two wickets in quick succession gathered momentum for the Orcas.

The
San Francisco innings went haywire as they lost wickets in clusters in the middle overs. Shadab Khan played a valiant knock of 37(23) and tried to drag matter till the end but the Unicorns kept losing wickets at regular intervals and lower-order collapse did not help their cause. Cameron Gannon was the pick of the bowlers for the Orcas and attained exceptional figures of 4/23. Imad Wasim and Andrew Tye also extracted a couple of wickets.

Earlier in the day, after winning the coin flip and elected to bat first,
Seattle Orcas were off to a ruinous start as Haris Rauf extracted the massive wicket of  Quinton de Kock 7(6) in the second over itself by uprooting the southpaw with a scorcher of a delivery. Both Nauman Anwar and Shehan Jayasuriya negated the new ball well following the early departure of de Kock and helped Orcas to aggregate 53 runs off the powerplay. Anwar and Jayasuriya added 44 runs for the 2nd wicket before Liam Plunkett outsmarted the former with some extra bounce.

The South African right-handed Heinrich Klaasen paired up with Jayasuriya and developed another partnership of 47 runs. Klaasen was the primary aggressor in the partnership but the Orcas were able to control the flow of runs in the middle overs. Jayasuriya eventually succumbed to pressure and holed out at 33(27). Klaasen kept attacking the bowlers and registered his maiden half-century in MLC before he threw his wicket away at 53(31). However, his 54-run partnership with Shimron Hetmyer 36*(30) steered the Orcas to a competitive total. Stick around for the post-match presentation!

17.5 C Gannon to Roux
W EDGED AND WHAT A CATCH FROM QUINTON DE KOCK! Back of a length outside off angling in, Roux plays away from the body and looks to guide it away past the keeper. Quinton dives full length to his right and takes the catch here. Roux is the last man out as the innings is over at 142 in 17.5 overs.
That will certainly do it for the Seattle Orcas. They can't lose the game from here.
17.4 C Gannon to S Khan
W WICKET! This should be the game then. Short of a length with pace off the ball, Shadab moves across and looks to pull it away. All he does is glove it through to the keeper. Quinton does the rest as the last hope and recognized batter Shadab departs for 37 off 23 balls. 9 down now for 142.
17.3 C Gannon to H Rauf
1 Short of a length into the pitch, Rauf heaves it and gets it straight up in the air. The ball lands in no man's land at the midwicket region for a single.
In comes Haris Rauf at number 10.
