10:47 PM IST: The IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans register their first win of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 as they beat the Nellai Royal Kings by seven wickets with 10 balls to spare. The bowlers set up things in the first innings before their batters stepped up to chase down 125 in the penultimate over.
S Radhakrishnan and Tushar Raheja got the Tamizhans off to a fantastic start in the chase of 125. Both played some wonderful strokes and took on the Royal Kings in the powerplay. They scored 54 at the end of the first six overs. The Royal Kings bowled well in the middle phase and kept a check on the scoring rate. Radhakrishnan fell on a 30-ball 34.
Raheja looked solid at the crease and played some good shots before getting cleaned up one short of his half-century. Rajendran Vivek played a good cameo of 21 off 13 balls and B Anirudh Sita Ram remained unbeaten on 15 to take the Tamizhans across the line with seven wickets in hand. Ramsingh Sony Yadav and Lakshay Jain S picked up two and one wicket respectively but it wasn't enough as they failed to defend the total.
Earlier, the Tamizhans elected to bowl first and bowled beautifully upfront. They reduced the Royal Kings to 38/4 at the end of the powerplay. Sonu Yadav looked to rebuild the innings but there was no support from the other end. He fell on 35 in the 16th over. G Ajitesh played some wonderful strokes lower down the order but his departure in the last over on 20 meant that they got bundled out on 124 in 18.2 overs.
P Bhuvaneswaran was brilliant with the ball for the Tamizhans. He picked up a fifer and gave away only 17 runs in his 3.2 overs. G Periyaswamy also chipped in with a couple of scalps as they did a fantastic job with the bat. Their batters then stepped up and chased down the total with seven wickets in hand.
