Tom Bruce (Central Stags Captain): "Yes, tonight was disappointing. We knew it was always going to be tough. It is the nature of the T20. You can keep going with the momentum but it is all gonna fall out if you're not consistent. We were in a really good position but the two games against Otago really hit us. We played some good cricket. We still have two competitions to try and win. So, it is not all doom and gloom."
In pursuit of a below-par total of 111, the Northern Brave openers started on an electrifying note by striking 14 runs off the first over. However, it wasn’t long enough before Doug Bracewell attained the opening breakthrough by dismissing Tim Seifert 0(2). Following Seifert’s wicket, the Brave deviated from the course and lost three more wickets in the powerplay.
Katene Clarke 15(12) played some good shots before he was outwitted by Jayden Lennox and Bracewell further pushed them on the backfoot by scalping two crucial wickets in quick succession. Skipper Jeet Raval then joined forces with Scott Kuggeleijn and deserted the sinking ship of Brave. The duo adjusted to the sluggish surface and glued up a partnership of 47 runs.
The southpaw Raval played the aggressor and tried to take the game down the wire but was dismissed on 49(35) with 4 fours and 2 maximums to his credit. Frederick Walker, the next man in, completed the proceedings with a quickfire 25(11). Doug Bracewell was the pick of the bowlers for Stags and claimed three scalps by leaking only 19 runs.
Earlier in the day, after being invited to bat first, Central Stags registered 110/7 on the board. The Brave bowlers were indomitable in the powerplay as they scalped four breakthroughs by leaking only 23 runs. The pacers were excellent to exploit the conditions to their favor and the extra bounce made things more toilsome for the batters. Experienced Ross Taylor then joined forces with Josh Clarkson and resurrected the Stags innings. The right-hander Clarkson netted 45(35), including 4 fours and 2 maximums, and gave the bowlers something to uphold. Scott Kuggeleijn made the most of the conditions and ended his stint with the figures of 3/14. Stick around for the post-match presentation!
