So that's the end of our coverage from Onecricket for the second match of Vivo IPL 14. Stay tuned for tomorrow's clash between the Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Should be another mouth-watering contest on our hands. Till then it's ta-ta and good night from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my co-commentators Nikhil Kulkarni and Anurag Dasgupta. All the football fans, gear up for the El Classico.
Shikhar Dhawan, Man of the Match: I really enjoyed my batting. Was enjoying the way I was hitting the ball. It was important to get off to a good start because we were chasing a big total. I have to innovate a few shots and I enjoy taking up challenges. I was playing the ball close to the body. The wicket was a little sticky. I knew my game plan. It is tremendous to watch Prithvi. He played some effortless shots. So good and so happy for him as he didn't have a good IPL last time around. I liked the Moeen Ali catch the most.
Shikhar Dhawan is the Man of the Match for his exceptional all-round showing.
Rishabh Pant, DC captain: In the middle phase, I was under some pressure. But we did well towards the end. It was very special walking out for the toss with MS. He has been my go to man. I have learnt a lot from him. We were thinking as to what we will do without Nortje and Rabada and I thought we had to do with the options we have. No, there was no effort for the NRR. Prthivi and Shikhar did well for us in the PP. They kept it simple and looked for boundaries.
Now it's time for Rishabh Pant to have a conversation with Harsha Bhogle.
Shikhar Dhawan receives the Upstox Most Valuable Asset of the Match Award.
Prithvi Shaw gets the Cred Powerplayer of the Match Award. Scored 36 of 18 balls in the powerplay. He receives a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Suresh Raina recieves the Unacademy Let's Crack it Sixes Award. Gets a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Shikhar Dhawan also wins the Dream11 Game Changer of the Match Award. He gets a Dream11 Trophy and cheque of Rs 1 lakh. He yielded 142 fantasy points.
Sam Curran gets the Safari Striker of the Match Award. A strike rate of 226 and he receives a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
Shikhar Dhawan gets the Vivo Perfect Catch of the Match Award. He gets a trophy and a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
It is time for the Post-Match presentation. Harsha Bhogle is the post-match presenter.
Prithvi Shaw: Feeling good. Everyone contributed and it was a good start (to the season). The wicket was good to bat on in the second innings and we executed quite well. From Australia when I was dropped I was working from there itself, coming back and across early, so I practised before going to Vijay Hazare with Pravin Amre and worked on that. I had a good plan before going into that tournament, so it is working quite well. I don't want to think about it (being dropped from the Indian side) because it was a disappointing moment for me but I have to move on and if something is wrong with my batting or technique, I have to improve and I am working hard on myself.
MS Dhoni, CSK captain: A lot depended on dew, and that factor played on our mind from the start and that's why we wanted to get as many runs as possible. The batters they did a good job to reach 188, because it was tacky until dew settled in 50 minutes later. We could have bowled slightly better, and if batters are hitting you over the fields, that's fair enough. The execution of the bowlers was poor and there were boundary balls that they bowled, but the bowlers will have learned and they will apply that in the future games. The opposition have half an hour in a 7:30 start, when the pitch is really tacky and the ball stops a bit, so we need to get 15-20 runs extra to be safe. If we get dew consistently, then 200 will be a must on a pitch like this. Their (Delhi) bowlers bowled a great line when it was stopping and seaming a bit, and the openers got really good balls in which they got out and that can happen in a game like this.
Arya: Following the dismissal of Moeen Ali, it was Ambati Rayudu who joined Raina in the middle and scored at a good run-rate. The pair again shared an impressive partnership and in the end, it was Ravindra Jadeja's breezy knock that helped CSK reach 188 at the end of their allotted 20 overs. Raina announced his return to IPL with a brilliant knock of 54 of 36 deliveries which was studded with 3 fours and 4 sixes. In the end the score of 188 proved to be way too short.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was the DC skipper Rishabh Pant who won the toss and opted to field. The start for CSK was just what the doctor ordered for DC. CSK lost Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad in quick succession and it was only after the introduction of Suresh Raina that the innings got some stability. The southpaw shared a good stand of 53 runs with Moeen Ali with the latter also smashing some body blows to DC.
Arya: Dhawan was dismissed by Shardul Thakur in the 17th over but by then the match was almost sealed. In the end, Rishabh Pant finished the match off with a trademark Rishabh Pant short-arm jab over long-on and it will be a nice way to start off your captaincy reigns against your idol.
Arya: Prithvi Shaw smashed 8 fours and a couple of sixes en route to his magical knock of 72 of just 38 deliveries and by the time he was dismissed the match was almost done and dusted. On the other, Shikhar Dhawan gained in confidence as the innings progressed and Dhawan also went after the CSK bowlers with full tilt. Some of the shots both the openers played was extraordinary and the CSK bowlers didn't do anything wrong. It was a delight to watch both Shaw and Dhawan as they shared a 138 runs stand in less than 14 overs.
Arya: The Delhi Capitals started off in a splendid fashion courtesy a sublime bit of batsmanship by Prithvi Shaw. He carried on from where he left at the Vijay Hazare Trophy and treated the CSK bowlers with utter disdain right from the outset. He looked like a man set on a mission and Dhawan on the other hand played himself in and played some delightful shots in the process.
Arya: A convincing victory for the Delhi Capitals in the end as they beat Chennai Super Kings in the 2nd match of the competition by 7 wickets to open their account in Vivo IPL 14. The target of 189 proved to be way below par in the end as DC chased the target down with 9 deliveries to spare. Fitting Rishabh Pant smashed the winning runs.
