So thats it from the commentary box folks. Till tomorrow's game between the Hobart Hurricanes and the Adelaide Strikers, adieus from me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and my fellow commentators Akshay Bhide and Kingshuk Kusari.
Daniel Sams, Man of the Match: Didn't want to get another duck and just wanted to take it deep. Have been working with Ponting to clear the boundary. Being completely honest when you lose a couple of wickets in the powerplay you get rattled, but we pride ourselves on being calm. There obviously were four points to grab, but great to get three.
Tom Cooper: What a special knock from Sams. We didn't execute our plans right in the final few overs and that paid us.
Arya: Lynn was eventually dismissed by Chris Green in the penultimate over after he made a stunning 69 of 44 deliveries which was laced with 3 fours and 5 sixes. However the final impetus in the innings was provided by Jack Wildermuth who smashed a 11 ball 31 to propel Brisbane Heat to score of 178/6 at the end of their allotted 20 overs after the Thunder bowlers had made a good comeback till the 18th over.
Arya: From there on, Chris Lynn took the onus on himself and started taking the Thunder bowlers to the cleaners. He struck some massive shots after getting bamboozled by the 19 year old Jason Sangha in his first over. On the other hand, Bryant fell at the score of 73. Lynn kept going and shared another impressive stand with Daniel Lawrence.
Arya: Earlier in the day it was Brisbane Heat skipper who won the toss and opted to bat. They got off to the perfect start courtesy a good opening stand between Max Bryant and Sam Heazlett. Both looked in ominous touch and took the Thunder bowlers to the cleaners. Heazlett looked in good touch before giving away his wicket to Daniel Sams. However the fall of wickets didn’t allow the Thunder bowlers to curb their run rate.
Arya: It was Daniel Sams who almost single handedly won the match for the Thunder. He shared a great stand with Ben Cutting but what Sams did even after the former’s dismissal was simply exceptional. He thrashed the Heat bowlers all around the park en route to an once in a lifetime knock of 65 of 25 deliveries which included 3 fours and 7 sixes.
Arya: Alex Ross and Baxter Holt tried to rebuild the sinking ship and shared a good stand between them. However the target was looking way too much and in a bid to score quick runs and get the Bash Boost Point, Holt was dismissed by Mujeeb. Ross was dismissed by Kuhnemann against the run of play but the match defining partnership was yet to come.
Arya: The chase started off in a very disappointing note for the Sydney Thunder as they lost three quick wickets which almost took the game beyond their reach. Jack Wildermuth who looked in ominous touch with the bat made the ball talk and bagged two quick wickets in his very first over. Alex Hales and skipper Callum Ferguson went without bothering the scorers. Usman Khawaja looked in great touch before his ultra attacking approach came to backfire as Wildermuth took his 3rd wicket
Arya: What a run chase it turned out to be for the Sydney Thunder. Riding on a sensational knock from Daniel Sams, Thunder gets past Brisbane Heat in a game which was being dominated by the Brisbane Heat for the major part. Eventually it was the carnage of Daniel Sams in the final few overs which gave the Thunder an unexpected victory from the jaws of defeat. In the end, they ended up winning the game by 4 wickets and with 7 deliveries to spare.
Kingshuk: My oh My oh My, what an over to finish off the game. Unreal hitting from Daniel Sams to turn the match on its head. The innings started with 2 wickets in the first over and it has finished with 4 sixes in the 19th. What a game we have witnessed here. A special innings for a special game. Take a bow Daniel Sams
18.5 Ben Laughlin to Daniel Sams
6 SIXX!!! That's the fitting end to the match. They chase down with 7 balls to spare. In the slot around off, Sams thumps this over long off fence for a six to seal the game
18.4 Ben Laughlin to Daniel Sams
6 SIXX!!! One more sails into the crowd. A slower ball on the shorter side, Sams sits back in the crease and pulls this over mid wicket fence for another maximum
Kingshuk: Daniel Sams has brought in the 'Heat'. What a stunning display of attacking batting this has been.
18.3 Ben Laughlin to Daniel Sams
6 SIXX!!! He's playing the innings of his life here. A full toss on the stumps, Sams hoicks this over mid wicket fence for a maximum. Brings up his 50 with that six
18.2 Ben Laughlin to Daniel Sams
0 Nails the yorker around off and Sams fails to get any bat on it. Another dot
18.1 Ben Laughlin to Daniel Sams
0 A yorker on leg, Sams walks across his stumps and misses the flick. A dot ball
Kingshuk: Oh, that was a wild one from Laughlin. But what a hit.
18.1 Ben Laughlin to Daniel Sams
NB6 SIXX!!!! A no ball and it's a six. A above waist high full toss, Sams pulls this over square leg for a huge six
