So like always it was a pleasure bringing the live commentary and match updates for you. Till the next time, me, Arya Sekhar Chakraborty bidding adieu on the behalf of my co-commentators Akshay Bhide and Kingshuk Kusari. Tata and stay tuned for the 3rd ODI
So that's it for the day. Yet again, Australia wins the 2nd encounter quite convincingly.
Moises Henriques: It is the most I've bowled for a little while so I was starting to get a bit sore there towards the end. Just tried to bowl as straight as possible. If you could hit the right length, it worked. I just tried to smack that length with changes of pace. (on his catch off Kohli) Yeah it was a really big wicket. I wouldn't be out of place in saying I'm pretty sure after we got Virat that a lot of guys were a lot calmer on the field. Thankfully he didn't hit it as well as he wanted to and I was able to get across without thinking too much. Those two innings from Steve... I've been lucky enough to play a lot of cricket with him and the timing he's showed in both games is extraordinary. You look up and he's 40 off 30 and you've not realised it. He's able to accelerate and score all around the field. I haven't seen him time the ball as well as he has in those two innings. The boys keep taking the mickey out of him because he says to anyone who'll listen 'he's found his hands' but maybe there is something in it!
Aaron Finch: It was I guess (perfect perfomance with the bat). Anytime you get in the high 300s is good. Very pleased to wrap it up in two wins. No idea (on Warner's fitness). We've got to reshuffle it around, I don't think he'll be available. Bit quicker would have been nice (on his own batting) but laid the foundation for the guys at the back end to come and play free cricket. The way Davey played up front was unbelievable. Then Smithy played out of his skin for two matches in a row. Henriques bowled to a simple plan and changed his pace a lot. As Virat said, we probably got a blueprint with Hardik's bowling, he was really hard to hit with pace off deliveries.
Virat Kohli, India Captain: Completely outplayed. I think with the ball we were not that effective. Didn't hit the areas we wanted to consistently. They've got a strong batting lineup and know the angles. Their total was a bit too steep, if you see we got 340 and still lost by 51 runs. With the areas they bowled, they were in a position to create chances and with those chances taken, they were on top. (on Hardik bowling) I think he gave away a bit of a bowling plan on this pitch, a lot of them bowled cutters (smiles). His bowling was out of nowhere I just asked him. KL and I thought even 100 in the last ten overs with Hardik to come was achievable. If KL and me had stuck around till the 40th over, we could have put them under pressure. The wicket was beautiful to bat on.
Steve Smith, Man of the Match: I think last innings I probably could have been caught at long on, a close lbw. I didn't give any chances today and I just felt good from ball one. I was able to get myself in and go hard. Another great foundation set by Finchy and Davey. Let me go hard at the back end. The last two games, the boys have got us off to terrific starts. We know India have a good batting line-up so we needed big totals. I tried to whack the ball too hard in the IPL but I've started hitting it with more finesse I should say, which is working for me. Nice to score some runs again for the team and get us to a good total. I thought the boys were outstanding in the field as well.
Yet again Smith was in a different league altogether. Just like the opening ODI, he played some exceptional shots during his knock of 104 of just 64 deliveries. Some of the shots which he executed was quite superb and the Indian bowlers were searching for answers. Navdeep Saini had a torrid time with the ball and ended up conceding 70 in his 7 overs. Even Shami and Bumrah went for runs. Yet again in the end, it was Glenn Maxwell who provided the much-needed impetus towards the fag end of the innings racing off to 63 of 29 deliveries. Eventually, Australia ended up posting a gigantic 389 at the end of their allotted 50 overs.
Yet again it was Aussie skipper Aaron Finch who won the toss and opted to bat. Yet again it was a great opening stand between Finch and Warner and India was yet again under the pump. After a few good overs, Warner and Finch were all over India with their exceptional strokeplay. They shared a sensational 142 runs stand for the opening wicket. It was Shami who removed Warner after a brilliant 83. A sensational direct hit brought about the downfall of Finch.
KL Rahul also struck some exceptional shots en route to 76 of 66 deliveries but the required rate kept climbing which put India under enormous pressure. Hardik also struck some lusty blows but with the fall of Rahul's wicket, it was almost all over for India. Jadeja gave India a glimmer of hope with a couple of lusty blows but with Hardik and Jaddu falling in successive deliveries it was all downhill for India. Eventually Australia ended up winning by 51 runs.
Virat Kohli was at his imperious best and finally scored some runs at the SCG after 5 failures here. He shared an impressive stand with Shreyas Iyer but the required rate kept on creeping up. Kohli played some exceptional shots during his knock of 89 and kept India in the chase. After a good knock, Iyer was dismissed and Rahul came into join Kohli. Both played some delightful shots and shared a good stand which still kept India in the match. Finally it was a sensational catch from Moises Henriques which brought about the downfall of Kohli.
Just like the opening ODI, India had a daunting target ahead of them. Chasing 390 was almost impossible even before the innings began and the visiting team needed to bat out of their skin to harbour any hopes of chasing the target down. Just like the opening ODI, India started off brilliantly with openers Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal looking in great touch. Both shared a fifty runs stand but two quick wickets pushed them on the backfoot,
Another comprehensive victory for Australia and they take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the 3 match series. Australia wins by 51 runs and another thoroughly professional performance from the hosts.
