Player Bio

A leg spinner by profession, and also a useful lower-order batsman, Timycen Maruma is a Zimbabwean cricketer who uses his height to great effect and can generate the extra bounce off the surface.

Prior to the 2012 domestic season for the Mountaineers, Maruma shifted his focus on batting and averaged more than 50 in the entire season. As a result of his exploits with the bat, Maruma was a surprise inclusion in the Zimbabwe squad for their Test series against Bangladesh in 2013. However, he failed to create any sort of impact with both bat and ball.

In the early part of his career, Maruma was seen more as a specialist bowler. He made his first-class debut against Bangladesh in 2006. Maruma had an astonishing domestic season in 2006-07, where he took 36 wickets at an average of 17.62. As a result, he was rewarded with a place in the Zimbabwe squad for the inaugural edition of the World T20 in 2007.

Post his debut in 2013, Maruma has been in and out of the side, mainly due to poor form. He struggled to cope up with the pressure of international matches and was completely ignored by the selectors for a while. However, Maruma went back to his domestic roots and performed heavily, Eventually, he was selected in Zimbabwe's T20I squad for the 2019-20 Tri-Nation Series.

A lot was expected of Maruma when he made his international debut in 2013. However, poor form and lack of game awareness meant that the selectors axed him for a considerable amount of time. He had a stuttering start to his career and never recovered from it.
