Player Bio

The Bangladesh women’s cricket team has had its own journey in international cricket. Speedster Jahanara Alam has been equally responsible for the Tigresses’ rise at the highest level. Started her cricketing journey in 2007, Alam started playing in domestic leagues in 2008 representing Khulna women’s team before moving to Sylhet in 2009.

Since making her debut, she has gone on to win multiple accolades for the Tigresses. She made her T20I debut against Ireland on November 26th, 2011, and has enjoyed plenty of success since. In addition to her record-breaking career, she was the first bowler for Bangladesh to take a five-wicket haul in WT20Is, when she picked up her best bowling figures of 5-28 against Ireland in 2018. As a result of her brilliant performance in the prestigious tournament, she was named the stand-out player of the tournament by ICC.

Her career went from strength to strength and in 2018, she was the leading wicket-taker for the Bangladesh women’s team in T20Is and also in the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup. Having played four T20 World Cups, she skippered her country in the 2016 T20 World Cup. The star seamer for the women’s team, she is currently the second-highest T20 wicket-taker of her country with 55 wickets in her bag.

The heart and soul of the Tigresses, Alam is a fierce competitor and has represented her country on more than 100 occasions. With her explosive pace and skiddy deliveries, she would be a good addition to the Women’s Big Bash League in the upcoming years.
