A quality top-order batsman, Prince Masvaure is a fluent stroke-making left-hander and also bowls skiddy left-arm medium pace. Having been involved in the first-class scene for some time, Prince also spent time in Australia at the High-Performance Centre and his progression to the National team was not unexpected.
The Bulawayo-born all-rounder first ventured to the UK in 2015, joining Sandford CC in Devon. After an indifferent start, adjusting to life on English pitches, he became a regular contributor with bat & ball, scoring 947 runs and taking 28 wickets.
A former U-19 skipper for the Zimbabwe national team, Prince made his Test debut for Zimbabwe against New Zealand on July 28th, 2016 and his first test innings couldn’t have been more challenging facing a blistering attack comprising of Trent Boult, Tim Southee and Neil Wagner. Off the back of an outstanding 146 against South Africa A a fortnight earlier and having arrived at the crease at 72-5, Prince lost 3 partners before he faced his 4th ball in Test Cricket as Zimbabwe crumbled to 72-8. He toughed out an 85-run, 9th wicket stand with Donald Tiripano, and was eventually dismissed for 42 (98). He showed great composure and watchfulness which saw him included in the ODI squads too.
The southpaw was the leading run-scorer for Midwest Rhinos in the 2017-18 Pro50 Championship with 271 runs in eight matches. Subsequently, Prince was added to the 22-man preliminary squad for their ODI series against Pakistan in June 2018. A month later on July 28th 2018, he played his maiden ODI in a disastrous collapse by Zimbabwe on 67 runs which saw the Men in Green winning by nine wickets. After a horrific series, he was dropped from the limited-overs squad.
A qualified Cricket South Africa Level 3 coach, a great character and a friendly guy, Prince will be a great pick up for Zimbabwe in the longer formats seeking a genuine all-rounder.
