Mohammad Saifuddin set to miss home series against Pakistan

Bangladesh pacer Mohammad Saifufddin who was ruled out of the on-going T20 World Cup with a back injury is now set to miss the home fixtures against Pakistan as well. According to Cricbuzz, the confirmation has come from Bangladesh Cricket Board chief physician Debashish Chowdhury. "He (Saifuddin) has a stress injury," said Debashish on Thursday (October 28). “After a month's rest he will start his rehabilitation program,” he added. Bangladesh are scheduled to host Pakistan for three T20Is and two Test matches which will be part of the second cycle of World Test Championship. The three T20Is will be played on November 19, 20 and 22 in Dhaka. The teams will then face off each other in the Test series. The first Test will be played in Chattogram from November 26 while the sides will be back at Shere Bangla National Stadium for the second and final match from December 4. Saifuddin picked up five wickets in the four matches that he played in the World Cup for Bangladesh. He was replaced by Rubel Hossain.

Bangladesh pacer Mohammad Saifuddin has been ruled out of the T20 World Cup with back pain and has been replaced by Rubel Hossain. "We will understand the gravity of his injury after he returns back to Bangladesh but since he cannot make a comeback in the tournament we opted for a replacement," Rabeed Imam, senior manager media & communications of BCB, told Cricbuzz. Rubel’s inclusion in the squad has been approved by the Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021. He was with the side as the reserve player. Hossain has featured in 28 T20Is and has as many scalps to his name. Saifuddin on the other side, played four matches for Bangladesh in the on-going competition and picked up 5 wickets before being ruled out. The Bangladesh side had a disappointing start to the Super 12 stage after they suffered a defeat against Sri Lanka. The Lankan lions chased down a target of 172 runs by five wickets and with more than an over to spare in Sharjah. While they lost to Sri Lanka in the first match, Bangladesh batting unit struggled against England in the second fixture. After a top-order collapse, the Bangladesh team could only manage to put 124/9 in 20 overs in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Re-establishing his all-around credentials and reclaiming his status as Bangladesh’ biggest match-winner, Shakib Al Hasan put his hands up just at the right time for his side in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Bangladesh have not been at their best in the ongoing T20 World Cup but just when they were on the verge of another shocking loss that could have ended their journey in the tournament inside the first round, Shakib Al Hasan shone bright both with the ball and bat to help them get over the line against the hosts Oman. They had suffered an embarrassing defeat against Scotland and found themselves under enormous pressure once again before Shakib forged an 80 run partnership with the opener Mohammad Naim. He later came back with the ball and took three wickets including the crucial wicket of Jatinder Singh, who was looking set on a 32-ball 40. He was awarded the Man of the Match award for his all-round contribution to Bangladesh’s win over Oman. He outlined the role played by the duo of Mohammad Saifuddin and Mahedi Hasan and said that their spells that yielded only 30 runs for the opposition brought them back in the game. He also said that the morale in the Bangladesh camp would be lighter after a much-needed win that keeps them going in the tournament. "I think the bowling of Saifuddin and Mahedi was the turning point as they probably had given less than 30 runs to bring us back in the game. I think the win is certainly relieving and I feel the atmosphere in the dressing room will be better after this win," Shakib said. However, he did not overlook the struggle of his side so far in the tournament and outlined their loss at the hands of Scotland and the hard work required for the win over Oman. He did not fall short of praise for the Scotts though and said that there are no favourites in the format and that any team who get two or three best performances on a particular day can defeat anyone. "I think the loss against Scotland was disappointing and we must credit them while even today we had to work hard to earn the win against Oman. Look, we must credit the associate countries as they play despite all the hurdles and they are playing good cricket so I feel they deserve all the credit. In the T20 format there is no favourite as everyone has to play well and as this is a short format only one or two players can change the momentum or have a huge impact behind a win,” Shakib added. Bangladesh have been found wanting in the tournament so far, especially in the batting department and Shakib conceded the scope of improvement for his fellow batsmen in the side. He said that the batsmen are underperforming both at the start and towards the end of an innings. He highlighted the target of 170 runs that would be sufficient for the bowlers to win them the game as a major goal going forward. "There is room for improvement in the batting as we have scored 150 runs and we can add 20 to 25 runs to it. If we can add 15 runs in the power play and 10 runs at the end it can be done and we are capable of it. If we can score 170 runs with the bowling attack we can fight against any team and we need this improvement,” Shakib concluded. Bangladesh are set to play their last game against Papua New Guinea and a win over them will ost certainly seal a place for them in the super 12 phase of the competition.

While Siafudding picked up three, Nasum got two wickets and Mahmudullah a solitary one. Surprisingly Mustafizur Rahman, who had so far picked up seven wickets in the series failed to pick any today. For Australia, only captain Matthew Wade and Ben McDermott were able to cross the double-digit while the rest of the crew simply crumbled. Earlier in the day, Bangladesh after winning the toss chose to bat first. With little contributions of Mohmmad Naim, Mahmudullah and Somya Sarkar, the Men in Red and Green managed to reach 122-8 in their quota of 20 overs. Nathan Ellis and Dan Christian picked two wickets each. Having not won even a single T20I game against Australia prior to this series to go on to beat them 4-1, Bangladesh’s achievement was outlined by a brilliant display from all players at various stages. However, Shakib, for his seven wickets and 11 runs in five games was adjudged Player of the Series.

Zimbabwe - Bangladesh T20 series preponed to conclude on July 25

The upcoming T20 series between Zimbabwe and Bangladesh has been preponed and it will now conclude on July 25 instead of the earlier scheduled date of July 27, Zimbabwe Cricket said in a tweet. The three-game series was supposed to be played on July 23, 25 and 27 but now it will be played on July 22, 23 and 25 as per the revised schedule. However, there is no change in the venue of matches and all of them will be played at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. Bangladesh are on a full tour of Zimbabwe comprising of all formats of the game. In the only Test of the series, the tourists register a big victory by 220 runs and they have also sealed the three-match long ODI series by winning the first two games so far. Zimbabwe have not been able to put up a strong fight against Bangladesh and a gulf between the sides have been brutally exposed by a quality Bangladeshi side. Both the list of leading wicket-taker and highest run-scorer across the Test and ODI series have been dominated by Bangladesh players and Zimbabwe have been handed a harsh reality check about the state of their game.

The chase of 241 by the Men in Green and Red wasn’t up to the mark at all as captain Tamim Iqbal and last match centurion Liton Das were out even before the team fifty could be reached. Soon, they were 75-4 with youngsters Mosaddek Hossain and Mohammad Mithun letting go of an opportunity to do well. Mahmudullah tried to stitch in partnership together, but it could only last 55 runs as Muzarabaniu removed the right-hand batter. Soon, Mehidy Hasan was removed too to get Bangladesh in all sorts of trouble and that’s when Shakib decided to take things in control. Earlier in the day, on the back of a Wesely Madhevere half-century and some important contributions by skipper Brendan Taylor, Sikandar Raza and Regis Chakabva, Zimbabwe were able to get to 240. However, the highlight of the innings was the bizarre ghit wicket of Taylor. He was given out when he hit the bails with his bat after the ball was out of play and he had already hit a shot and was shadow practising. Having now won the series Bangladesh wouldn’t want to let it go easy in the third match as every match counts for the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League and with three wins from this series they would remain top of the table in the league. While Zimbabwe would look to at least get one back to salvage some pride with the final game on Tuesday, July 20.

Bangladesh bowling all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin would miss the third and final ODI even as he has fully recovered from the concussion he suffered during the second ODI played on May 25. His concussion substitute Taskin Ahmed is likely to get a game in his place. Or the coach could experiment with medium pace and better batting abilities of Soumya Sarkar, who is also fully fit now. Bangladesh’s medical unit advised Saifuddin to take a rest as he is the team has already got an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The 24-year-old bowler was hit on the head by a Dushmantha Chameera bouncer in the 48th over of the Bangladesh innings in the second ODI at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. He subsequently got run out trying to run a single on that very ball. The third and final ODI between the two teams would be played today, May 28 at the same venue. The match has a high chance of being abandoned or significantly reduced due to the ongoing Yass cyclone in the Bay of Bengal which has for the last three days wreaked havoc in parts of Bangladesh and adjoining Indian states of Bengal and Orissa.

Bangladesh allrounder Mohammad Saifuddin was replaced by Taskin Ahmed who came in as the concussion substitute for Saifuddin during the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Dhaka. “Bangladesh allrounder Mohammad Saifuddin was hit on his helmet while batting in the second ODI. He has shown signs of concussion and for his safety Saifuddin is being substituted on the match by a like for like player Taskin Ahmed,” a statement from the Bangladesh Cricket Board said. Saifuddin was hit on the helmet in the 47th over of the Bangladesh innings before getting run out on the same delivery. Batting first, the home side was bowled out for 246 in 48.1 overs. Bangladesh didn’t have a solid start to the proceedings and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. T he hosts were struggling at 74/4 when Mushfiqur Rahim was joined by Mahmudullah in the middle and the two stitched a stand of 87 runs for the fifth wicket before Mahmudullah departed for 41. But Rahim continued his form and eventually notched up a century. He scored 125 off 127 during the course. Chameera and Sandakan picked up three wickets each for Sri Lanka while Isuru Udana bagged a couple. Bangladesh lead the three-match series 1-0 after they defeated Sri Lanka in the first match by 33 runs.
