A superstar in the making, Pavan Rathnakaye is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer for the Colombo Cricket Club. The teenager already has some accolades to his name, one of them being the youngest cricketer to score a century in Sri Lankan first-class cricket.

Rathnayake made his first-class debut for the Police Sports Club in Tier B of Sri Lanka’s Premier Tournament. A few months later he kicked on his U-19 division 1 season with 6 centuries and crossed the 1000-runs mark, topping the schoolboy charts with 1227 runs.

A naturally gifted cricketer, Rathnayake broke all sorts of records when scoring his maiden first-class century. The youngster notched up 164 unbeaten against Moors Sports Club and at 17 years and 189 days, he became the youngest player to score a first-class century in Sri Lankan domestic cricket. By doing so, he also broke Jayawardene’s record to become the youngest player to score 150+ and it was the highest individual score from the number 8 position

The talented young man looks set for a bright future ahead. To develop himself as a cricketer, he was set to head to the UK before he was blocked by the Sri Lankan board. Rathakaye is someone who was seen as one of the brightest prospects since his school days and he will be hoping to grow as a cricketer to make it into the national team.
