Player Bio

Known for his fast bowling and a plethora of variations, Vyshak Vijaykumar plays for Karnataka in the Indian domestic circuit.

Vyshak's journey is a testament to the unwavering support and sacrifices of his father, Vijay Kumar. A dreamer who aspired to be a cricketer himself, Vijay Kumar quit his job at Hindustan Unilever to ensure his son's training and development.

Vyshak started his cricketing journey as a batter, focusing on the role till the age of 17. However, a coach by the name of Ramana at the Basavanagudi Cricket Academy, where he used to train, convinced him to become a bowler.

The Bengaluru-born made his debut in domestic cricket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21. He then went on to become an all-format player for Karnataka, featuring in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) and Ranji Trophy in the 2021-22 season.

He was the joint fifth-highest wicket-taker in SMAT 2022-23, pocketing 15 wickets in eight matches at an economy of 6.31.

Despite facing setbacks, Vyshak's determination remained unshaken. After going unsold in the 2023 IPL auction, he bounced back, ending the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 as his team’s joint-highest wicket-taker with an impressive 31 scalps in eight games.

It was then Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) roped him in as a net bowler. He eventually made RCB’s squad as Rajat Patidar’s injury replacement.

Vyshak's IPL debut against Delhi Capitals in 2023 was nothing short of spectacular. Showing no signs of nerves, he ended up with figures of 3/20 in his four-over spell, including the crucial wickets of David Warner and Axar Patel. He registered the best bowling figures on an IPL debut by an RCB bowler, a feat that filled his fans with pride and excitement.

The right-arm pacer snapped 9 wickets in his maiden IPL season and would be a vital cog in the franchise’s bowling department for the 2024 edition. He is coming off a brilliant red-ball season with Karnataka, bagging 39 wickets in 16 innings. Apart from his bowling attributes, Vyshak caught everyone’s eye with an unbeaten century against Chhattisgarh in the same tournament.
