Player Bio

A tall, hit-the-deck kind of bowler, Matthew Fisher broke 92 years old record by becoming the youngest cricketer to play a competitive county game at the age of 15 years and 212 days when he lined up against Leicestershire in a 40-over match.

After bursting onto the cricketing scene, Fisher was immediately called into the U-19 England squad for the 2014 ICC U-19 World Cup. Despite his tender age, he made an instant impact and finished as the leading wicket-taker as England finished third in the prestigious tournament.

In April 2015, Fisher appeared in a first-class game for the first time against the Notts. He played a small part in Yorkshire’s 2015 County Championship success featuring in just 3 matches. His maiden T20 five-for, against Derbyshire at Headingley in May 2015, came whilst he was in the midst of his A-Level exams at his school.

A standout first-team performance came in September 2017 in a County Championship match against Warwickshire. He claimed a career-best 5-54 in the first innings and hit 37 and 15 with the bat leading his team to victory before getting stranded at 96/7.

After a series of muscle injuries, Fisher slightly fell back but all those injuries only strengthened the youngster’s career. A new ball seamer who is a very, very handy lower-order batsman, Fisher can be seen as a genuine all-rounder in all formats. In February 2021, Fisher was selected for the inaugural Hundred campaign by the Emerald Headingley-based Northern Superchargers.
