Player Bio

A skilful left-arm orthodox spin bowler, Danny Richard Briggs made his England debut in 2012, but couldn’t cement a regular spot in the Three Lions squad.

Briggs however, has been an excellent performer in white-ball cricket for his domestic sides. In the 2010 FPt20 campaign, the spinner took 31 wickets and helped Hampshire to claim the title.

A year later he became the youngest English spinner to grab 100 wickets in first-class cricket.

The Newport-born was selected in the 2011 England Lions tour of the Caribbean for 4-day matches, and he ended up picking 33 wickets at an average of 18.87.

He finally made his international debut for England in the fourth ODI against Pakistan in 2012. The orthodox spinner bowled well in the match and was able to pick up 2 wickets to propel England to victory. Unfortunately, this happens to be the last time that Briggs played an ODI game for his country.

The tweaker was then selected in the England squad for the 2012 World T20. He played just one match and took a solitary wicket in the tournament.

In a T20I game against Australia in 2013, Briggs was taken to the cleaners by Aaron Finch during his record 156 at the Ageas Bowl. Briggs conceded 51 runs in four overs and his confidence took a big blow after that game.

However, the talented spinner continued to perform well for Hampshire in the domestic circuit and has continued to pick up wickets at crucial junctures.

In a game against South Africa A, Briggs slammed his maiden first-class ton, scoring 120 from 154 deliveries batting at no.7.

Ahead of the inaugural season of the Hundreds in 2021, Briggs was picked up by the Southern Brave squad. He’ll hope to perform well with the ball in order to impress the selectors ahead of the long T20 road that lies ahead.
