Player Bio

Zahid Mahmood is a Pakistani cricketer who plays for Southern Punjab and represents Quetta Gladiators in his country's very own Pakistan Super League. Mahmood is a quality leg-break bowler who emerged late on the international scene in 2021, at the age of 33. The leg-spinner has a controlled weapon in googly and is quicker through the air.

Born in Dadu, Mahmood holds a degree in physical education from the University of Sindh. He made his domestic debut, back in 2010, during the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy when the leggie played for Hyderabad. Later that season, he made his List A as well as T20 debut. In Pakistan’s domestic cricket, Mahmood completed his 100 first-class wickets after playing for a decade.

After grabbing his 100th first-class wicket, in 2020, Mahmood was shortlisted as one of the Domestic Cricketers of the Year for the 2020 PCB Awards. The following year, the leggie received his maiden call-up for Pakistan for the T20I series of South Africa, and later received his T20I cap in the last game of the series, at Lahore. On debut, Mahmood took three wickets but ended leaking runs at an economy of 10.

The spinner was later picked by Quetta Gladiators for the Pakistan Super League 2021. Mahmood made his PSL debut against Lahore Qalandars where he took his maiden wicket in the form of opposition captain, Sohail Akhtar.
