Player Bio

One of the finest spinners in Australia, Fawad Ahmed is a Pakistan-born professional cricketer for Australia. A leggie by profession, Fawad fled Pakistan in 2010, having played 10 first-class matches. He arrived in the Pakistani domestic circuit in 2005 for Abbottabad and made his first-class debut against Islamabad in October 2005.

After arriving in Australia in 2010, Fawad was granted permanent residence in 2012 and performed well in Melbourne grade cricket.  His exploits in the domestic circuit earned him his first Big Bash League contract from the Melbourne Renegades. The veteran then moved to Victoria for the second half 2012/13 season and impressed his then skipper Cameron White and the Australian legend, Damien Martyn.

The Marghuz-born leggie earned heaps of praises from the cricketing fraternity and was rewarded with a debut cap against England. He made his debut in a T20I fixture on August 29th, 2013 and a week later made his ODI debut as well against Scotland. After the English tour, he failed to secure a spot in the Aussie white-ball squad and was eventually dropped. Nevertheless, he has grown into confidence over the past few years regularly featuring for the Sydney Thunders in BBL.

Fawad and Ashton Agar bowled well in tandem throughout the ninth and tenth editions of BBL to make a great partnership for the Sydney Thunders. At the age of 39, he is in the twilight of his career and would be hoping to take the BBL by storm for few more years in his cricketing career.
