That brings an end to our coverage for this game. Do join us tomorrow for more cricketing action throughout the globe. Akshay Bhide here signing off, on behalf of my co-commentator AjayAhire and scorer Manish Bishnoi. Tata. Bye Bye.
Balbirnie receives the trophy and poses with his teammates for a photograph. All smiles for the Irish men who seal the series with a 3-2 margin.
Andrew Balbirnie | Ireland Skipper:"We had a
long summer with results not going our way. So we were looking forward to this
series and great to see guys stepping up after losing two consecutive games. We
got a great group there and it's good to see the players putting pressure on each
other to hold their place in the side. We knew we had to start well. We had a
clear plan of getting off to a solid start and happy with the result. Dockrell has
played brilliantly throughout the summer and is looking forward to seeing him
perform for us in the upcoming games. The confidence grows after a series win
and will look to carry the momentum forward. The World Cup in Australia is a
great challenge for us and will be looking forward to it."
Mohammad Nabi | Afghanistan Skipper:"We can't control the weather and it's the part of cricket. Under pressure, we threw away the wicket, and things could have been different if this could have been a full 40 overs game. The boys will improve day by day. We are looking to improve in all three departments. We enjoyed well here in the last couple of weeks."
George Dockrell | Player of the Series:"Really
enjoying this new role. Nice to be able to chip in and contribute with the bat.
I always loved to hit straight while batting but it's great that it's coming off.
I’m still working on it but happy with the effort. We have got the license to
go out hard early in the innings and play with freedom. We have learned a lot
during this summer and happy to come out on top against a strong side like
Afghanistan."
George Dockrell is the Player of the Series.
Mark Adair (Player of the match): "I think as a unit we were good. We got a bit of luck and that's what a team asks for. Bowling in the powerplay can be difficult at times. The fielding needs to be improved and we are certainly looking forward to it. Really glad that we won the series."
Mark Adair is the Player of the Match.
Time for the post-match presentation.
Akshay: There it is. George Dockrell hits the winning runs. With this, they win the
fifth T20I by seven wickets on the DLS method and seal the five-match series by a 3-2 margin.
They came very close to winning throughout this summer but now they have
finally crossed the finishing line and we can see a sigh of relief on the faces
of the Irish players. The revised
target for Ireland was 56 in seven overs. Paul Stirling and Andrew Balbirnie
opened the innings for the hosts. Balbirnie struggled early in his innings but broke
the shackles with a massive six in the second over. Mujeeb sent him back on
nine in the third over as he trapped him in front of the stumps. Lorcan Tucker joined
Stirling and kept the required run rate under check. Stirling
was dismissed by Mujeeb on 16 in the fifth over but Harry Tector got going from
the word go. Rashid Khan picked the wicket of Tucker in the penultimate over
with 11 more required to win. Seven runs were required off the last over but
Dockrell kept his cool and hit a boundary on the third ball to settle the
nerves. He finished things on the next ball to help his side
chase down the modest total with two balls to spare. In the
first innings, Mark Adair wreaked havoc in the Afghan camp. After being asked
to bowl first, the Irish bowlers bowled brilliantly upfront. Adair picked up
three wickets in his first two overs and blew away the Afghan top order. The
Afghan side only managed to score 33 at the end of the powerplay for the loss
of three wickets. Usman Ghani
along with Najibullah Zadran led the recovery work but twin strikes from Joshua
Little in the 11th over dented the Afghan’s progress. Ghani was
going strong from one end but lacked support from the other end. Ghani and Azmatullah
Omarzai were unbeaten on 44 and 15 respectively but the rain arrived and no further
play was possible in the first innings as Afghanistan ended their innings on
95/5 at the end of 15 overs. Afghanistan fans would think that they were robbed
of overs due to rain but their batters faltered and it resulted in them handing
Ireland the series. Stick around for the post-match presentations.
6.4 Malik to G Dockrell
1 Dockrell does it as he takes his team over the winning line. It has been a great series between these two sides but the home side takes the honors at the end of it. Malik hits the good length a tad outside the off. Dockrell stands tall and chips that one over the mid-off and does the trick for Ireland. And with that, Ireland take the series by the margin of 3-2 as they beat Afghanistan in this decider by 7 wickets...
6.3 Malik to G Dockrell
4 FOUR!!! Scores are level now...Ireland can smell the victory now. Malik bangs that one short on the off-stump line. Dockrell hangs back and pulls that one to the deep square leg region. The fielder in the deep gives his all but fails to cut that one.
6.2 Malik to H Tector
1 Again a single only for Tector. It's getting tight here at Belfast. Back of a length on the off. High on the bat as Tector mistimes the swot just short of the mid-off for a single.
6.1 Malik to G Dockrell
1 Malik to bowl the last over...Dockrell collects a single to begin the over. 6 off 5 now. Back of a length on the off, Dockrell hangs back and steers it to the third man for a single.
7 required from the last over. Fareed Ahmad Malik to bowl it. Can he defend it?

5.6 R Khan to H Tector
2 Wrong'un on a good length a tad outside the off. Tector hangs back and cuts it to the deep point. The fielder down there fumbles and that allows an extra run here for Ireland. 7 needed now from last 6 balls...
5.5 R Khan to G Dockrell
1 Dockrell is off the mark...Rashid drags his length back on the off. Dockrell pulls it to the deep square leg for a single.
5.4 R Khan to H Tector
1 Fuller on the middle and leg. Tector pushes it to the long-on for a single.
