That is it from one of the most awaited clashes in this World Cup. England have managed to win this contest and move onto the second position in the points table. Now the equation is a bit tricky. Two important matches- Australia vs Afghanistan on Friday and England vs Sri Lanka on Saturday. My fingers are crossed. No one has defended the Trophy before, and the road is a tougher one for the hosts as well.

Then join us back tomorrow for a couple of swashbuckling cracker Jacker contests coming up. For now, it is me, AkshayaKrishna Polya signing off on behalf of my co-commentators Anurag Dasgupta (DG) and Arijit Kundu, who, alongside our scorer/analyst Paras Yadav brought you all the live-action of this nerve-wracking thriller. We will meet in the next game. Until then, it is cheers!
Jos Buttler (England Captain): "Yeah, absolutely. He played brilliantly. Yeah, we know what he is capable of. He is a great T20 player. In T20s, you need to be patient and ask guys to do their best. T20 cricket is all about taking risks, and you need to be brave enough, and we need to push.

The only change was the surface getting a bit wet due to dew. It was partly hard to grip the wet ball. But that didn't make the difference, as we had enough runs on the board. Yeah, 180 was a par score. There was that dew factor, but you know we had bowled well, and with a score we had on the board, it was not as big a factor as it would have been.
Today, batting first was the best option for us. The pitch was a little wet.

Y
eah, Moeen Ali dropped that one. I did not expect one. But initially, we thought that he won't get there. But once he got there, we then thought he may have overrun that. He shouldn't have dropped that, but that happens in the game of cricket. It was he who set the match with the initial over.

Yeah, we have Sri Lanka in the next game. We need to win that and have to see how other teams go around. Overall, it has been a good tournament. First and foremost, we must defeat Sri Lanka."
Kane Williamson (New Zealand Captain): "Yeah, credit to the way England played. They made us fall under pressure from the get-go. I think if we could have made those breakthroughs in the initial half, but hats off to the way Jos and Alex played.

Yeah, probably it was slightly above the par score and we tried to take the innings deep later. We have had some moments, but again we failed to take the heat out of the game. Yeah, you cannot drop Jos, if you do, he will make you pay just the way he did today.

I bubbled out, and oh, I thought I squeezed that into my chest [on the dropped catch of Jos Buttler], A bit embarrassing in the end. Oh, he is batting well, batted well on a tricky wicket in the last game, and the way he played today changed the tide of the game.

Any tournament you go in, you gotta be put under pressure, take the lessons from here and move into the next one."
Jos Buttler (Player of the Match): "Yeah, absolutely. You don't become a bad team overnight. We have some dangerous players in our lineup. Yeah, it is it is!! Quite a ruthless tournament, Last year South Africa went out last year having won 4 out of 5 games. You expect to win games against the best teams in the world at times. I think with our lineup, it helps us to bat deep, and we can take on the bowlers.

The wicket was tricky I guess and how it was offering the spin. Alex Hales was good as he took on the bowlers early - Myself one day and someday it will be him. Yeah, individual things, are nice to look at at the end of your career, but team effort is more important. The game shapes in different ways and it is beneficial to have a few left-handers in the initials. Moeen Ali stepped up with the first over and a fantastic over from him at the first up.

4:59 PM IST | England are alive in the tournament as they beat New Zealand by 20 runs in a massive contest here at the famous Gabba!

Coming into the run chase of 180, New Zealand didnโ€™t start well as they lost both of their openers, Devon Conway and Finn Allen, quickly inside the powerplay. Kane Williamson and the hero from the last match, Glenn Phillips (62 off 36), stitched a partnership of 91 runs for the third wicket. To be exact, it was the latter who was smashing the English bowlers all around the park while Williamson (40 off 40) was holding an end up. Ben Stokes broke this stand by dismissing the Kiwi skipper in the 15th over to put the pressure back on New Zealand.

Once they lost their captain, New Zealand lost their way, irrespective of the big hitters Jimmy Neesham and Daryl Mitchell. Both these batters came and went in no time as Glenn Phillips felt the pressure at the other end of needing 49 off 18 balls. But it was too much for anybody to ask for, and nothing different for Phillips as well. He fell in the 18th over, and with that, it was pretty much done and dusted. Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner did hit a few runs, but that could only reduce the margin of the defeat as England restricted the Blackcaps to 159/6 in their allotted 20 overs. For England, Sam Curran and Chris Woakes scalped a couple of wickets, while Mark Wood and Ben Stokes picked one wicket each.

Earlier in the match, England won the toss and opt to bat first. Jos Buttler and Alex Hales started off cautiously and slowly lifted their run rate via a few delicious strokes around the Gabba. The duo smashed 81 runs for the first wicket, and it needed Mitchell Santner's sharp turn to break this partnership as Hales (52 off 40) was stumped in the 11th over. While Buttler stood tall and played a captainโ€™s knock, wickets fell regularly at the other end.

Apart from Liam Livingstone (20 off 14), no one stretched their hand towards Buttler (73 off 47) as they posted 179/6 in their allotted 20 overs. For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson, despite being expensive, scalped a couple of wickets. While pacers were being thrashed by the English batters, Mitchell Santner and Ish Sodhi were economical, besides picking a wicket each.

With this win, England move to the second spot in the points table and the pressure is on Australia now as they need a bigger win against Afghanistan in their final group game.

Stay tuned for the presentations!

2-26(4.0)
19.6 S Curran to M Santner
1 Good change of pace and Curran dishes this on the up, at the pads. Santner could mistime the jab down the line and earn a single out of it. England wins by 20 runs and they are still in the tournament.
19.5 S Curran to M Santner
0 Oh wait!! What was the umpire signaling? It's the first bounce ahh!!๐Ÿ˜Œ Short and into the left hander and the batter whips across and the ball gushes over. Umpire Nitin raised his finger up for quite some time and therefore confusion prevailed.
19.4 S Curran to M Santner
0 Spot on!! nails the yorker as Santner shuffles away and digs it back to the bowler of the cue end of the willow.
19.3 S Curran to M Santner
2 Pitched it up, follows Santner as he makes room. The southpaw could only drill it past the long on region and hustle for a couple. Shrewd bowling from Sam.
England have reviewed this one. Fair delivery.
19.3 S Curran to M Santner
WD 133 KPH!! Full and dripping down the leg stump, might be a pad on this occasion. Santner looked to clip at it. Buttler had heard a sound and therefore went upstairs for the review. Flat line in Ultraedge as the ball gushes past the bat. Wide Called!!
19.2 S Curran to I Sodhi
1 Length delivery, angling away from Sodhi and the latter turns the whip of the inside half to deep mid wicket for a single.
19.1 S Curran to I Sodhi
0 Swing and a miss from Sodhi!! Full, angling away and the batter swings and gets beaten on the inside edge. Full, slow, angling away from Curran.

18.6 C Woakes to M Santner
6 SIXXXXX!! Finally some good signs from New Zealand but maybe it came a bit late. Short from Woakes just outside the off and Santner pulls this over the long on region for a six. The long on fielder looks to give a go at it but the ball flies over.
18.6 C Woakes to M Santner
WD Going past the tramline on the offside and called a wide.
18.5 C Woakes to M Santner
2 Short from Woakes and Santner mistimes the pull over the non striker and hustles for a couple. The ball slowed down to long on and therefore Santner unfurled.
