Aaron Finch | Australia Captain: "We needed to jump on early, and we didn't come towards the game anyway. They were infront of the game, and we were always behind it. Finn Allen came to us, and it was a great exhibition from him. He was unbelievable, but you have to take it. It was one of those days where you need to be on the receiving end of such a brilliant counter-attack. See, it did come off for Allen tonight but to be honest, we needed to bowl well. The net run rate did get a hammering, but you have games to cover. I think the next challenge for us is Sri Lanka in Perth. Need to get ready for it."
Devon Conway | Player of the Match: "Yes, cheers, thanks a lot, Howard. The boys did well, and it was a great performance from the lads, and we won. It is pretty special for him. He has done well throughout his career, and I have seen this. He is doing a great job for the team. I thought of timing the ball and it helped me a lot. The surface is good to bat on and I just timed the ball. We need to focus one game at a time and we would certainly do that."

Earlier, Australia won the toss and invited New Zealand to bat first. Finn Allen and Devon Conway gave the team a flying start as the duo added 56 runs for the opening wicket in no time. It was Allen who especially took the ego out of the Aussie quicks as he smashed 5 fours and 3 sixes in his 16-ball 42. The number one T20I bowler, Josh Hazlewood, bowled a cracker of a yorker to dismiss the Kiwi opener.
Kane Williamson (23 off 23) struggled during his stay on the crease but stitched a good partnership of 69 runs for the second along with Conway. Glenn Phillips did try to club a few but failed to bat long. Conway glued at one end and smashed an unbeaten 58-ball 92. But the real finishing touch was given by Jimmy Neesham, who smoked a 13-ball 26 to help the side post a total of 200/3 in their allotted 20 overs.
For Australia, Josh Hazlewood scalped a couple of wickets while Adam Zampa picked the wicket of the Kiwi skipper.
Chasing a mammoth total of 201 runs, Australia had the worst possible start as they lost David Warner in the second over. From there on, the hosts didn’t recover as they lost wickets at regular intervals. None of their big names, Marsh Stoinis, David, and Wade, didn’t raise on occasion and added to the woes of the Australian crowds.
While Glenn Maxwell tried a bit to reduce the margin of the defeat with his 20-ball 28, but the situation demanded something more. In the end, Pat Cummins clubbed a few lusty blows and took the team past the 100-run mark to avoid the embarrassment. Southee, who started it picked the last wicket to skittle out Australia for just 111 in 17.1 overs.
Tim Southee was the one who started the Aussie downfall with his figures of 2.1-0-6-3. Mitchell Santner owned the middle phase with his spell of 4-0-31-3. Trent Boult took care of the tail with his spell of 4-0-24-2. Lockie Ferguson and Ish Sodhi scalped a wicket each in their support.

17.1 T Southee to P Cummins
W WICKETTTT!! And there you go, all the celebrations amidst the Kiwi camp, and its Tim Southee finishing things off. Full and near the channel, the batter swings hard for a biggie, incurs a top edge, and the ball skies up and falls underneath the wicketkeeper Devon Conway. Pat Cummins seems a little upset with the performances but all ends with shaking hands among each other as this is what the gentleman's game preaches. Conway didn't really had to move way too much and takes a comfortable grab.
Southee is back into the attack.
