Milestone
We hope you all enjoyed the game as well as our ball-by-ball coverage in the second encounter of PSL 2022. It's me, Ajay Singh, along with my fellow commentators Arijit and Ajay Ahire and scorer Chandan Kumar Singh, signing off for the day. Do join us for the upcoming fixtures as well. Until then, goodbye!
Shoaib Malik | Peshawar Zalmi skipper: "We didn't really start well. It happens when we get into a tournament. As a bowling unit, we have to back the guys we have on board. Fielding is something where we have to improve a lot. We need to show more character in the field. A wins always gives you confidence. But it's a long tournament, and we need to improve, especially in the fielding department. The boundaries are also big this time. We hope to put on a better show as the tournament progresses. We weren't sure of winning until we scored the last run. Naseem was bowling well. I guess it's good to see quality youngsters coming in. I still love hitting the gym as well as the hard yards."
Sarfraz Ahmed|Quetta Gladiators skipper: (In Hindi)"We were just 12 runs short in the end while batting. We weren't able to pick wickets in the middle when Malik and Talat were batting. The momentum is important. I think the momentum was broken at times. We didn't get the wickets in the middle. Will Smeed batted outstandingly well. Also, Ahsan Ali batted really well. Thank you."
Will Smeed (player of the match): "Great game. Fortunate to get the opportunity here and am happy to contribute to the team total. With the new ball, it was easy but as the ball got older it was pretty difficult for me but it went well for me. Will look to continue the same in the next game."
As for the Quetta Gladiators' bowling, there wasn't much bit throughout the innings to trouble the Zalmis. Nawaz came back after an expensive first spell and grabbed three scalps, only to finish with another costly set of six deliveries. Naseem Shah was also good for the most part, especially in the death when he bowled a tight 18th over, giving away just 6 runs. No support from any other bowler cost the Gladiators big time, and there was no going back from the 22-run 19th over by the experience Faulkner. While Ashir Qureshi looked fine in bits and pieces, the lack of big-stage experience, or simply experience, was evident.
Everyone from the Zalmis contributed to the win, barring Haider Ali. A good start by the duo of Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Yasir Khan, followed by some good middle-overs batting by Hussain Talat got the Zalmis very close to a win. Stand-in skipper Malik was as cool as ever, ending up with a 32-ball 52 and hitting the winning runs for his side.
Those were some thrilling last few overs in Karachi! It's Peshawar Zalmi who emerge victorious in a close encounter against Quetta Gladiators and commence their campaign with two points. While a target of 191 was always going to be tricky, Peshawar Zalmi never looked off track during their chase. Though Naseem Shah bowled a brilliant 18th over to tighten things up, Faulkner leaked as many as 22 runs in the 19th, won't be wrong to say, to gift a win to Malik and Co. Also, we can't rule out the exemplary display of being there in the middle and taking your team over the line by the skipper, Malik, himself.
19.4 N Shah to S Malik
1 That's it and that's the game here for the Peshawar. Malik the evergreen batter steers his team home here. Fuller length from Naseem shah drifts on the pads and clips that one towards the midwicket for an easy single. Peshawar gets their first win and the old story continues for the Quetta Gladiators.
19.3 N Shah to S Malik
2 A couple of runs here and scores are level now. Good length delivery on the off stump line. Malik pulls it along the ground towards the deep midwicket region for a brace here. 1 needed now from 3 balls.
19.2 N Shah to S Malik
0 A dot ball here. Well well the game is on here. Fuller length just outside the off. Malik misses the drive to the keeper.

19.1 N Shah to S Rutherford
W WICKET!!! Rutherford departs here is there any twist in the tail. Fuller length angling away from the batter from Naseem Shah. Rutherford goes for the big one on the leg side. But gets the toe end of the bat and it goes straight into the hands of Nawaz at long-on. He departs for 10 and they are 5 down now with 3 more runs needed here.
19.1 N Shah to S Rutherford
WD A wide ball to start from Naseem. Pressure and more pressure here. Hits the short of a length but goes down the leg. Given wide by the umpire. Needs to reload that one.

18.6 J Faulkner to S Malik
6 Flat and over the ropes this time. Full and pace off, near the off, and Shoaib Malik opens the front legs, sits there, and slaps it wide of deep mid wicket for a maximum. Faulkner has been taken for a tour here. The experience of Shoaib Malik comes handy here. Just four more runs needed now.
Arijit: All of a sudden, its just 10 runs required from the last 7 balls.
18.5 J Faulkner to S Malik
4 FOUR!!! Collects a four this time. Brilliant batting from Malik. Fuller length outside the off. Malik slashes that one past the point fielder for a four here. He is taking them close here. What a hitting from the experienced all rounder.
Arijit: Well, Well, Well!! The experienced campaigner knows how to do it in the slog overs. Joins Sherfane Rutherford in the range hitting competition.
