Otago won the toss and decided to bat first but they failed to get decent first innings total on the board. They lost a few early wickets but Kelly 54(39) and Jones 24(23) did manage to pull things back for them. Once this partnership was broken they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. They could only manage to put on 128 runs in their 20 overs. Auckland were not really in trouble as they went on to chase this below-par total comfortably. Guptil departed early but Chapman 53*(45) and Worker 55(42) managed to stitch a 100 run partnership for the second wicket. Their partnership ensured them an easy 8 wicket victory.
