Milestone
That's it from our end for today. We hope you all had a good time following the game with us. Do join us for the upcoming matches at the ICC Men's U19 World Cup. Until then, take care!
Speaking more of Brevis, he dons the jersey number 17, and boy did he live up to the reputation! The right-hander was a class apart in the SA U19 lineup. It would be interesting to see how his career shapes and whether or not he goes on to wear the number 17 for the senior Proteas side!
We also saw another quality pace duo from India. Both Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Ravi Kumar looked composed. Hangargekar, in particular, was quick and troubled the batters from time to time.
India U19 skipper Yash Dhull: It was a nice game for us. Everyone bowled well. We planned to contain in the middle overs and build pressure by bowling dot balls. I wanted to stay in the middle till the end and attack towards the end. While I couldn't' do that, we achieved a decent total.
SA U19 captain George van Heerde: We did take our chances and going into the game, we would have been happy chasing 230. We lost a few wickets in the middle. We would like our batters to apply themselves a little more. I started a little slower than I would have liked.
V Ostwal is the Man of the Match: The wicket was quite decent to bat on but there was some dryness as it was a used surface. The plan was to bowl tight lines and not let the batters score. The total was decent, and I'm grateful that we won. It was a great team effort. Everyone contributed to the win.
Only four batters scored in double figures as the SA U19s fell short of the target by 45 runs.
Bawa, who went for 17 in his first over, was the one who turned the game on its head with the wicket of Brevis, who was looking well set for a 100 and taking the SA U19s over the line. As soon as Bawa got rid of Brevis, Ostwal took over and cleaned up the lower middle order with some rippers.
That's the end of a well-fought, well, for the most part, contest. The South Africa U19s started off nicely despite losing a wicket in the first over of their innings. Valentine Kitime and Dewald Brevis built together a decent partnership to stabilize the chase. Kitime was replaced by skipper George Van Heerden as the young Proteas went for the target, only to be thrown away from the track by R Angad Bawa.
45.4 Bawa to A Mnyanda
W WICKET! THAT'S ALL FOLKS! India have dismissed South Africa and taken the win in their first match of the campaign. Short pitch delivery, Mnyanda gets a top edge, the ball loops straight towards mid-off's hands. Brilliant victory for the men in blue!
45.3 Bawa to A Mnyanda
0 Short ball, flashes past just over the stump!
45.2 Bawa to L Alder
1 Short ball, Alder lofts it towards mid wicket but only for a single.
45.1 Bawa to A Mnyanda
1 Good length, outside off, dragged towards long on.
Anirudh is at the top of his mark once again
