So that's it from this opening match of the 14th Edition of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. It's a good bye from me (AkshayaKrishna Polya) who was along with Anirudh Modi and Ajay Singh as we brought you all the live coverage from this enthralling contest. Stay tuned on our websites and apps for the coverages of cricket matches all around the world. We will meet in the next game. Until then, it's cheers..!
Cooper Connolly, Australian Under-19 Skipper: " Thank you for the congratulations. Feels happy to start with the winnings note. He is a classy player at this young age itself (Teague Wyllie). That warm-up match against India Under-19 where we chased the target with just one down was a massive boost in the confidence coming in to this. We  bowled well to restrict them under 175 and then the chase was simple for us if we do the basics right."
Ackeem Auguste, West Indies Under-19 Skipper: " I think we were 50 runs short. Unable to put together enough partnerships was the reason for the down fall. We believed in ourselves to win this game throughout. We dragged the match till 45 overs by bowling dot balls which is the positivity from this match."
Player of the Match, Teague Wyllie: " It was very difficult to start. New ball was doing a bit. I am second-youngest member in the squad and felt a bit nervous coming in. I was decided that I am not giving my wicket away. Nice partnerships with Connolly and Radhakrishnan. Batted well till the end which makes me to feel happy. Thank you."
Earlier, the hosts West Indies Under-19 won the toss and opted to bat first. They didn't get off to a good start as their top order was taken apart by the Aussie Under-19 new ball attack. They were reduced to 12/3 in just 5.1 overs. Tom Whitney and William Salzmann were superb with the new ball up front. Then in came the Windies Under-19 skipper, Ackeem Auguste who along with Rivaldo Clarke put up a 95 run partnership for the fourth wicket. Auguste played some delightful shots as he notched up a cool and calm fifty. At a team score of 107, Clarke was sent back to the pavilion by Nivethan Radhakrishnan for the score of 37. Sooner the skipper followed him as he played a reckless shot at his score of 57 which included eight boundaries. He was dismissed by his opposite number Cooper Connolly. They didn't recover from this at all until a quickly fired cameo from their No.9 batter Mckenny Clarke helped them to get to 169. He scored 29 runs from 35 balls which included two fours and three sixes which he had struck in an over to Hakirat Bajwa. They lost their last 7 wickets just for 62 runs. Courtesy of brilliant spells from Cooper Connolly, Nivethan Radhakrishnan and, Tom Whitney which were reading 7-1-17-3, 10-0-48-3, 8.1-2-20-3 respectively.
Chasing a fairly easy target, Australia Under-19 was in a spot of bother at 21/2 after 7.5 overs. Corey Miller went out cheaply for a duck and following him was Isaac Higgins at his personal score of just 9. Cooper Connolly and Teague Wyllie rebuilt the innings with their stand of 53 runs for the third wicket. This partnership was broken by a 6 foot 5 inches tall spinner, Onaje Amory as he got the wicket of the opponent skipper for a score of 23 runs. But after his partner's dismissal, Teague Wyllie batted sensibly with Nivethan Radhakrishnan as they put together a match-winning partnership of 75 runs for the fourth wicket to make sure that they are close to the target. In the process, Teague Wyllie brought up his fifty. It was a patiently achieved milestone. He ended up unbeaten on 86 off 129 balls with eight fours on it. Nivethan Radhakrishan 31(58) got out to a brilliant catch at point by Anderson Mahase. Onaje Amory, Shiva Sankar, Matthew Nandu, and Johann Layne took a wicket each.
Australia Under-19 beat West Indies Under-19 by 6 wickets comprehensively in the opening match of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup here at Guayana. They chase down the target of 170 with 31 deliveries left. West Indies Under-19 were bundled out for 169 earlier. With this win, Australia Under-19 will be topping the group-D for the moment.
