Match Details
So that’s that, and it’s the Deccan Gladiators that have emerged as the winners.
Batting first, the Chennai Braves were bundled out for a meager total of 57. It was a sorry state of affairs for the Braves, as Rajapaksa’s score of 18 from 10 topped the charts for their side. The game belonged to Wanindu Hasaranga, as he was all over Chennai like a rash! The Sri Lankan leg spinner bowled a spell of 3/9 in two overs, which included the wickets of Perera, Shanaka, and Mark Deyal. Other than that, Hasaranga also took a catch, as well got the better of Khalid Shah through a runout. Roman Raees, and Andre Russell also did reasonably well by picking up two wickets apiece.
The run chase got off to a blistering start, as Tom Kohler Cadmore struck a boundary and a six on the first two balls of the second innings. However, he was then dismissed by Pradeep, after getting caught at mid-off. Tom Banton top-scored with 19, before Perera, got him out caught. Tom Moores scored a couple, while, Najibullah Zadran and Odean Smith were dismissed for not.
Mark Deyal, and Angelo Perara contributed with two wickets each while creating a spot of bother for the Gladiators.
In spite of a few speed bumps, the Gladiators managed to secure the win with five wickets, and 24 balls to spare.
It’s been a night to forget for the Chennai Braves, as it all started off with an underwhelming display with the willow, which later transpired in the second innings too. Four catches were grassed by the Braves, which made the Gladiators task all the more simpler. So, the Braves are yet to register their first win of the tournament, and their recent performance will be a big blow to their confidence levels going ahead.
As for the Deccan Gladiators, it was a clinical, complete, and a performance of the highest order!
