Some brilliant individual performances to kick off the second season of Lanka Premier League. The caravan rolls on with a double header tomorrow. Do join us for that and all the other cricketing action around the globe. For the time being, it’s me Tushar Garg, along with Ajay Ahire and Ayan Chatterjee saying goodbye. Good night!

Galle skipper Rajapaksa -  Feels good to start off the tournament with a win. T-10 league has helped me in being in touch with the game. It started turning early and our spinners bowled superbly to give us the result. We have a good set of pace bowlers too, we can plan our bowling according to different conditions.
Jaffna skipper Thisara Perera - 164 was way too much on this track 140 would have been a gettable total. Slightly surprised by the nature of the pitch but it's still very early in the tournament. We will need to shrug this as on-off loss and come back strongly in the next game. Happy to be back playing on the park.
Player of the Match is Samit Patel for his all-round performance. He scored a crucial 42 and picked up 3 wickets as well. - "The pitch didn't change much, we went into the second innings with a bit of momentum in the last five of our batting innings so that helped. Wasn't quite sure of the total but in the end it proved to be a winning one."

Galle Gladiators win by a comprehensive margin of 54 runs. This has been a stellar bowling performance by the Galle Gladiators. After a brisk start against the pacers, Jaffna Kings felt like they had the best of the power play. But Mohammed Hafeez had other ideas, he quickly sent back both the openers inside the power play. The wicket of Upul Tharanga was a critical one as he was threatening to take the game away with some sumptuous stroke-play. The Pakistani allrounder finished with an outstanding spell of 2-11. Spin continued to rule the roost from there on with Samit Patel and Noor Ahmed chipping in with wickets to derail the chase pretty swiftly. They crumbled in the wake of creeping required run rate and were not helped by some ordinary stroke-making from their batters.

Earlier, the Galle outfit posted a competitive total of 164 on the board. Bhanuka Rajapaksa propelled the innings forward with an imposing half-century. He played with remarkable fluency and lifted his team from a tricky position, they had lost three wickets inside the powerplay. Samit Patel contributed with a vital knock coming in at number six. Mahesh Theekshana, Jayden Seales and Wanindu Hasaranga combined well to tailor a good bowling performance for the Jaffna Kings who would have fancied their chances to at the halfway stage with the dew kicking in. But that wasn’t to be the case as they were humbled later on.

18.4 N Thushara to M Theekshana
W GONE! All over. Theekshana takes the full ball and hits it in the air to mid-on. A simple catch is taken at mid-on. Tushara finishes things off here. The Gladiators win this by 54 runs and open their account. Sweet sweet revenge for the 53 run defeat in the summit clash last year. Captain Rajapaksa with the catch.
18.3 N Thushara to M Theekshana
2 Short of length, Theekshana swings gets an outside edge over Noor Ahmad as they get a brace behind point.
18.2 N Thushara to M Theekshana
0 Short and wide, a bouncer type. Theekshana swings and misses. Short pitched stuff.
18.1 N Thushara to M Theekshana
0 Bowls a nasty snorter here. Theekshana uses his feet, but Tushara throws in a short one.

17.6 P Tharanga to J Seales
0 Hat-trick ball is negotiated. Bowls on the off, as Seales, negotiates that as he bunts it onto the pitch.
17.5 P Tharanga to S Lakmal
W GONE! First ball. Lakmal tries to use his feet and swings them. Looking for a big one drags the length back and the stumps are castled. Tharanga will be on a hat-trick now. 9 down are the Kings.

17.4 P Tharanga to W Riaz
W Short ball, pulls it away got the elevation and not the distance and a good catch there by Tharanga at deep square leg. Good catch as Riaz departs after a cameo. 8 down now. Tharanga has the last laugh.
17.3 P Tharanga to W Riaz
6 That's in the slot, a length ball as Wahab Riaz uses his long leavers against the turn as he smashes that over deep square leg for a huge SIX!
