Ninaad: Sydney Thunder, the previous edition's champions had a horrible start to this season as they lost four off their first 5 matches and one was washed out but they have finally found their mojo and have won the last 2 games in 2 days.
Thunder won the toss and elected to bat first and lost just a wicket in the powerplay. Smriti Mandhana and Phoebe Litchfield stitched a 70 run partnership to provide a good base to the Thunder innings. Deepti Sharma (20 off 15) provided the boost required in the slog overs as Smriti Mandhana fell while trying to accelerate, just after completing her half century.
Nicola Carey picked up two wickets but was expensive whereas Amy Smith, Tayla Vlaeminck and Ruth Johnston picked up a wicket each. Thunder went on to score 146 for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs.
Hurricanes had a poor start as they lost two early wickets in the powerplay. The only big partnership was worth 42 runs between Mignon du Preez (41 off 39) and Nicola Carey (29 off 28)
Powered by a three wicket haul from Deepti Sharma and two important wickets from skipper Hannah Darlington, the Sydney Thunder never looked in discomfort and kept on picking wickets at regular intervals.
