That's it from our coverage of the first T20i between England and India from The Rose Bowl, Southampton. Ninaad Dixit here, signing off on behalf of my co-commentator Ishan and scorer/analyst Paras Yadav. Stay tuned for more coverage from around the globe.
Hardik Pandya: "Last time when I played a T20 in England, I scored some 30-odd and picked up four wickets. I am enjoying my cricket and that's more important. I want to make sure my body is all right and the preparation is alright. When the rhythm is going good I want to make every opportunity count. I decided I want some time off the game because I have enjoyed whenever I play. It was about intensity and I am happy at this place right now. I have always been a kind of individual who likes to take responsibility. I always play to the situation and what the team requires."
Hardik Pandya is the player of the match.
Rohit Sharma: "It was a great performance right from ball one. All the batters showed the intent. The pitch was good for the bowlers but we were good with the bat. We played cricketing shots and didn't try to get ahead of the game. We kept the basics right today. You got to make the use of first six overs especially when there are just two fielders outside. Sometimes it comes off and sometimes it doesn't but you have to keep going on. All the players need to buy into it. The whole batting unit need to come together and need to understand where the team wants to go. The way Hardik has prepared himself from the IPL till now is amazing. With the bowling, it is something he wanted to do for a long time. Swing was something we considered as well that's one of the reason we opted to bat. Our bowlers were brilliant and stopped the batters with the wickets and that's where we got much control. We want to set our fielding department really high and those chances should have been taken."
Jos Buttler: " India bowled fantastically well with the new ball and put us under a lot of pressure. We couldn't really come back in the game from that point. We came back really well in the second half while bowling. We bowled with bravery I thought. We keep trying to chase wickets. The ball swung quite consistently in the first six overs and then they took some early wickets. Chris Jordan was fantastic. He is clear with his plans and to bowl like that in a high scoring game is fantastic. Bhuvneshwar Kumar can swing the ball at most places. He bowls with great control and shaping the ball well. Probably swung a bit more than I remember in a T20 game. All credit to India, they were fantastic. Number of guys are out with injuries or some other reasons and it has given opportunities to some other guys. Matt Parkinson bowled with some bravery today and bowled some tough overs in the end and took that challenge. That's exactly what we wanted to see. We know they have the talent and hope to see them on the bigger stage."
A perfect start to the T20i series for India as the visitors bundle England out for 148 and seal a 50-run victory. India won the toss and elected to bat and put up a mammoth total of 198-8 in 20 overs on the back of a maiden half century from Hardik Pandya (51) and some good knocks from Suryakumar Yadav (39) and Deepak Hooda (33).

India started the defense well with Bhuvneshwar Kumar striking in the very first over sending Buttler back for a golden duck. Arshdeep Singh started his career with a maiden over and swung the ball both ways bowling the cutters and the occasional bouncer as well.

Hardik Pandya was introduced in the powerplay and struck twice in an over to remove Dawid Malan and Livingstone. Jason Roy departed soon after the powerplay was over after struggling for 4 off 16 deliveries.

Hardik Pandya with another breakthrough. Moeen Ali and debutant Harry Brook then added 61 runs for the fifth wicket and played some very good strokes. Yuzvendra Chahal accounted for both the wickets and put India on the top. Hardik Pandya chipped in with Sam Curran's wicket and finished with figures of 4-33.

All the Indian pacers used the short of a length well and restricted the English batters. Chris Jordan played a cameo down the order with 26 off 17 but it was not enough to take the English total close to India. Stay tuned as we come back with the presentation.

18.6 H Patel to Parkinson
0 119kph. Low full toss on the stumps. Opens the face of the bat and plays this straight to extra cover. It's a lost cause for England as they need an impossible 53 off the final over.
18.5 H Patel to Parkinson
0 131kph. Good length steaming in towards the batter. Looks to guide it in the leg side but gets hit high on the pads.
18.4 H Patel to C Jordan
1 133kph. Back of a length on the off stump, slaps down the ground towards long off for a run.
18.3 H Patel to C Jordan
0 Slower one. Length ball on the off stump, played straight to cover.
18.2 H Patel to C Jordan
6 Short pitched ball, Jordan is cramped for room as he hooks and gets a top edge over fine leg for six!! Lucky runs for England!
18.1 H Patel to C Jordan
4 Over the wicket. Fuller delivery around the off stump. Driven straight down the ground for four runs! Beats the mid off fielder, gets it off the middle of the bat.
