That's it from the India vs Pakistan encounter in the 2022 ICC Women's World Cup. This was Saurabh Saket alongside Badal Pareek and Ayan Chatterjee. Do join us for other coverages from across the globe .Will see you soon until then stay safe.
Mithali Raj India Winning Captain: "I am relieved that we won the first game, but we have to work on a few things. I think, when you lose wickets in the middle overs, it puts pressure on you. A valuable partnership between Pooja and Sneh brought us to a good score. That is what we have to address because you want the top order to fire here. With Deepti, Sneh in the line-up alongside Pooja we want to lengthen our lineup and that's why the idea of Deepti batting at Number 3. About Pooja's injury, I don't think it's that serious. We have a couple of days before our next game and hopefully, she will recover in time for the next game. Happy with the win today, but areas to work on going forward. "
Bismah Maroof | Pakistan Losing Captain: "I think we bowled well in the middle, I think we missed our mark in the middle which allowed them to make a comeback. I think we bowled poorly near the end and failed to put pressure on the game. I think I would have stuck to my decision to field first despite the loss. I think I'd like our batters to score some runs in the upcoming games since that is really important for the side!"
Pooja Vastrakar | Player of the Match: "I am very pleased with my performance. This is my first ever man of the match and that too in the world cup. You(Anjum Chopra) told me that it is my kind of track and I remembered it. I loved to bat under pressure and I love to bat with Sneh Rana. The batters who got out told us that it was a slowish track and 240 to 250 would be a great score. My injury is not a big concern, the physio has said to me that I will be fit for the next game."
Time for the post-match presentation.
Saket: India beat Pakistan by 107 runs to win the contest!
India were up against arch-rivals, Pakistan in their opening match of the campaign in the Women's World Cup. India won the toss and opted to have a go with the bat first.

Pakistan had the early laugh in the contest as Shafali Verma was sent back on a duck as Diana Baig rattled her stumps. Deepti Sharma alongside Smriti Mandhana built up a 92 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket, with Mandhana scoring 52 runs off 75 deliveries.

Anam Amin stuck in the 22nd over and caught Deepti on her own delivery to break the partnership. It went all downhill for the Blues in the middle over as Pakistan's spinner broke the back and crippled the middle order with consecutive wickets. India lost five wickets within the next eighteen runs and were pushed down to 114/6.

Sneh Rana and Pooja Vastrakar however took it upon themselves and build a hundred runs plus partnership to help India put up a respectable total on the board. Vastrakar scored 67 runs off 59 deliveries to give her side the needed momentum. Rana on the other hand played a perfect supporting role and scored 53 runs off 48 deliveries and remained unbeaten till the end.

Vastrakar lost her wicket in the final over of the innings as Fatima Sana rattled the stumps, Jhulan Goswami was next and scored 6 runs off 3 deliveries as India posted a total of 244 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in their quota of 50 overs.

Pakistan had a very slow start to their innings as the Indian bowlers kept them under check. Sidra Ameen and Javeria Khan seemed to struggle early and could only score 25 runs in the first power play. India took advantage of the pressure and Rajeshwari Gayakwad picked up Javeria on the score of eleven.

Skipper, Bishmah Maroof had a small partnership of twenty-five runs alongside Ameen but departed at the score of fifteen in the eighteenth over. India crippled the middle order with consecutive wickets and gave Pakistan no chance to make a comeback as Gayakwad alongside Goswami were all over the batters and pushed Pakistan to 98/7 within the 33rd over.

Sidra Nawaz and Diana Baig tried to put up a small struggle but it was quickly put to an end by Gayakwad as she caught Nawaz ahead of the stumps and sent her back to the pavilion at the score of twelve. Sneh gave Nashra Sandhu no chance to settle in as she sent her back on a duck to push Pakistan 114/9 in thirty-seven overs.

Pakistan had no chance to make a comeback in the game and were wrapped up at the score of 137 runs in forty three overs as India won the contest by 107 runs to register a win in their opening contest of the World Cup.
