What a game we had. Amidst the COVID-19 scare, the Gabba gave us an enthralling match. Hobart Hurricanes marched on with a convincing eight wickets win over the grappling Brisbane Heats.

Right from the bat flip everything went their way. After winning the bat flip, they put the Heats to bat first. Heats didn't start well as their openers Jake Lehmann and Jack Clayton fell early. It was Lachlan Pfeffer wo kept the things together for the Heats as notched up a fifty. Pfeffer ended up scoring 69 runs from 51 balls. Apart from him no body actually chipped in with better performances and they lost wickets at regular intervals. In the end, Will Prestwidge gave them some finishing touch as he scored a quick cameo off 21 runs from just 7 balls containing one four and two big sixes. They ended up at a below par score of 144/8. Mitchell Owen and Sandeep Lamichhane took two wickets each.

Chasing 145 was never really a task for the Hurricanes. But they lost a early wicket in the form of their opener Caleb Jewell who got a outside edge to the keeper in the bowling of Will Prestwidge. Then it was all Ben McDermott who started slowly but once he was settled he took on the bowlers and stitched a partnership off 114 runs for the second wicket with Peter Handscomb. Before the win, Ben McDermott was denied on his third century for the season. He holed out at deep mid wicket when he was batting on 93 from 61 balls. Handscomb anchored the innings with his unbeaten 27 off 33 balls and in the end D'Arcy Short finished the match with couple of lusty blows as he remained unbeaten on 12 off just 5 balls. Apart from Will Prestwidge no one looked like making an impact with the ball for the Heats as he took both the wickets to fall for the Hurricanes in the chase.

With this win the Hurricanes will stay at the fourth spot with 20 points and despite the loss the Heats will be at the sixth place with 14 points.

Now, Heat will play the Strikers on January 12 while the Hurricanes shoulder arms with the Thunders on January 10th.
